    Hello everyone,

I have that old laptop which I'm still using, the Travelmate 4222WLMi.

While upgrading the RAM, I noticed that there was like a black cardboard/plastic sheet covering the vent shown enclosed in the red box.
I'm wondering whether it's the design of the laptop or if the workers in the assembly line forgot to remove it.

The covered vent leads of a (tiny) fan. Hot air is blown on the same side ( blue arrows,3rd pic ) . That part gets quite hot.

Should I remove the sheet to improve the cooling?

It's something that's easy enough to reverse if it doesn't work so you may try it especially that similar mod worked on an Aspire 5738.
Make sure to measure temps before and after the mod both when idle and in a benchmark of your choosing.
There might have been a specific reason why this vent was closed so it's important to verify that you will have actually improved the cooling rather that ruined it.
