I haven't played all of them (it would be a definition of insanity), completed even less, but from which I played I liked AC II the most.

Assassin's Creed 1 & 2 i really liked, Assassin's Creed Blackflag was ok a very different twist (The boats), Origins made the first two confusing in terms of story line, Odyssey just mudded the water more on that run too. Assassin's Creed III, Liberation, Rouge, Syndicate i haven't got around to yet. The side scrollers i haven't even bothered to play, i rather play Prince of Persia (Amiga version).

So what happens after the 17th of April? You lose access to the game and have to buy it?

Also, if someone who never played Assassin's Creed before, I feel it is confusing as to where to start or what game to play? Should one start with the first one to understand the story? What is the first one called anyway?

Its free to own/keep, but after the 17th the offer will expire.

As it stands the order is

    Assassin's creed Origins
    Assassin's creed Odyssey
    Assassin's creed 1
    Assassin's creed 2 etc etc

Nice! Open world third-person is not necessarily my favorite game genre (I'm really just a linear run-and-gun single-player campaign first-person shooter kind of guy) but there is no way I am going to argue about something that is free... that's a wonderful price. Thanks for sharing the info. I grabbed it. The last time I played Black Flag (the most recent episode in the franchise that I own) was March of 2014. Maybe I will be more warmed up to the franchise now.

I started to play Origins a while ago but found myself distracted by other games. To be honest I did not like the "forced" progression built in this game (and I hear Odyssey is even worse at this). What I mean is that you pretty much must stick to the path the game wants, you cannot go and explore areas which are a little bit over your level, you cannot get overpowered. Some may see this a positive, I see it as the game forcing you to play in one particular way which doesn't suit me.

I will give it one big brownie point. When I got to the pyramids, I found the exact spot I made pictures in real life when I was there and it was very very similar. It's very cool when games do this.

Zero Punctuation review explains my feeling very well:

Just be careful, Assassin's Creed 2 was what started my addiction of solving in-game puzzles for loot.
