Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone knew how to disable ASUS live update from starting up when I boot up. I tried to use the advanced functions in Spybot S&D for disabling startup processes but there is no process listed for ASUS live update.

On another note, is there any way that I can stop Vista from reminding me that the UAC is disabled whenever I startup?

    Thanks a lot.

Have you tried disabling it from msnconfig->startup?

No, I'm not very experienced at using the command line to do anything, I would need some direction.

Do you keep it enabled? It's always told me there are no updates so I'd rather not have it take up space in my taskbar....

either disable it using msconfig (click the Start button, type Run in the search box, press enter. When the Run dialog box opens, type msconfig, and press Enter again. This will open the System Configuration window. Click on the Startup tab, and look for Asus Live Update. Uncheck the box, click Apply or OK, and restart the machine to make sure it doesn't startup again).

For the UAC warning, open the Security Center, and there should be a link in the left pane for "Change the way Security Center alerts me." Click on that, and choose which notification method you want. Should take care of that.

    Good luck!

Thanks, I was able to stop windows from notifying me about the UAC but Asus Live Update (ALU.exe) was not on the list in the system configuration window.

Check in the STARTUP tab. It should be there.

Well, it's not there.... So I imagine it's there for everyone else? That doesn't make sense. It should be there, I recognize everything else there but ALU is not on the list even though it runs on startup....

I suppose I could uninstall it and just check the ASUS website for any updates...

How about under the Services tab? I can't recall whether ALU is technically one of those, even though it essentially functions as a tsr.
