I think that you're a bit early, here... Next week's CPU releases are only desktop CPUs. I haven't seen any specifics on when the mobile CPUs will be available.

I think that a reasonable expectation would be to see the mobile CPUs trickle onto the market in time to hit the holiday shopping season. Usually, this starts out with a select number of lower-powered mobile CPUs, and that's probably all that we'll see this year. The Precision line is always among the last to be refreshed by Dell, and it requires the high-performance chips, including Xeons, to be available. I'd be pretty shocked if we hear anything about the next generation of Previsions before January, but I wouldn't be surprised if we have to wait until more like March/April.

Coffee Lake update aside, what I am really hoping for is a re-designed VRM thermal management solution.

I don't think I'll be too excited by it. It is still the same architecture underneath really. And the desktop ones only are offering a moderate improvement in performance over their current generation. I would only consider replacing my 7700k machine now because of the added cores which will help with encoding speeds.
