Alright, so we all know that Windows 10 is an embarrassing piece of crap of an OS in an eternal beta stage, but I wonder, is there any hope of this OS becoming borderline viable on high-performance hardware any time soon? Specifically:
    • Is there any hope, whatsoever, of the sound issues with the Realtek card being addressed? I know that's partially a Realtek issue, but having system sounds delayed by up to a second or so is completely unacceptable.
    • How about that NVidia Optimus problem? There's a thread over on answers.microsoft.com that by now has hundreds of people fuming about their systems stuttering in various ways due to Windows 10 mishandling its hybrid graphics stack. By the way, that thread over there is not for the faint of heart: There's a bunch of hardcore gamers over there, and people are absolutely LIVID about this; you've been warned...
Anyhow, the way Windows 10 stutters on a beast of a laptop such as the 7720 (Xeon CPU paired with a Quadro P4000 in my case) is utterly ridiculous. "Fast and fluid"? My @ss...
    • Then there's little things like random COM Surrogate crashes.
    • Oh, and sometimes the system won't come back after the screen has been turned off for a while (no sleep, just screen off, mind you) and needs to be power-cycled.
I am by now at a point where I would return my machine if I could. Seeing the combination of Microsoft screwing up the OS with Dell having badly f'cked up their hardware (no dedicated Home/End keys on the deck of a 17" machine? Are you effin' kidding me?) has pretty much brought me to the end of my line here. My new MacBook Pro has shipped and should be coming in before the Holiday. I never thought I would get to this point, but I may yet get used to Mac OS. Looks like I don't really have a choice, have I?

Are you thinking of installing Linux on your Dell laptop instead of windows? That might be one other choice to explore. Your Macbook Pro you have on the way sounds very nice. In my opinion OS X is a nice operating system, although I've not used it since getting my 7710. Have you had much experience with OS X? You could setup a Samba file share on a NAS to act as repository between the Macs and the other PCs in the house since they use different file systems. Quality should be great on the Mac. Apple is pretty much done with Nvidia so you won't need to worry about Optimus since it won't be there.

Other than most of my dev client tools not being ported to OS X-- my only beefs that I recall is the quirky OS X file manager "Finder". Some of the key combos necessary to perform certain actions was another beef. I wonder if Apple has addressed some of those weird keyboard key combos by using the touch bar above the keyboard instead. What I'm really wondering is how you will like the macbook keyboard layout. The touchpad on a macbook is absolutely the best that I've used (circa 2009).
