Ok so here's the deal, my main laptop is currently a surfacebook 2, great machine, can't fault it, unfortunately it took a tumble this week and shattered the screen so it's going to my insurance companies repair centre for them to have a look.

In the case that they can't repair it I'm going to need to buy something to replace it, and because I've not really been paying much attention to whats going on in the world of laptops, I figured what better place to ask?

    General Questions

    1) What is your budget?

    Approx. £800-900

    2) What size notebook would you prefer?

between 12 and 15.4, any larger is unwieldy

    3) Which country will you buying this notebook?

    UK

    4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?

    a. Like: I have no preference
    b. Dislike: I'd rather not buy Acer or Apple, nothing against apple laptops but the keyboard is trash tier on the new ones
    .

    5) Would you consider laptops that are refurbished/redistributed?

    yep

    6) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook?

Mostly browsing, listening to music, youtube, twitch, netflix, films, office related stuff and maybe a wee bit of gaming, who knows.

    7) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both?
    both

    8) Will you be playing games on your notebook? (If so, please state which games or types of games?)

I wouldn't mind it, maybe a little skyrim, rimworld or civ, or an older cod title.

    9) How many hours of battery life do you need?

I don't mind, a few hours would be nice

    10) Would you prefer to see the notebooks you're considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK?

I'd like to see the notebook first but there are like, no computer shops worth a damn near me

    11) What OS do you prefer? Windows, Mac OS, Linux, Chrome OS, etc.

    Windows

    Screen Specifics

    12) What screen resolution(s) would you prefer? (See further below for explanations.)

high would be fine, ultra would be nice though

    13) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen? (See further below for explanations.)

    either, prefer matte though

    Build Quality and Design

    14) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?

before the surface book my daily notebook was a clevo monster so looks and style don't bother me, I prefer function over form

    Notebook Components

    15) How much hard drive space do you need?

256gb and up would be nice

    Timing, Warranty and Longevity

    16) When are you buying this laptop?

potentially in the next month or so

    17) How long do you expect to use this laptop?

until it gets too slow to be useful

    18) How long could you afford to do without your laptop if it were to fail?

    few weeks

    19) Would you be willing to pay significantly extra for on-site warranty, or would it be acceptable to you to have to ship the laptop to the vendor for repair with perhaps a week or more outage?

on site warranty is dope, but i dont mind either way

In addendum, I'd like 8+gb of ram,

Perhaps a Latitude 14 or 15 from the Dell UK Outlets is worth a look?
