I was starting to feel a bit uncomfortable with RAID 5, especially after my desktop died and I needed those backups (thankfully I had them). So I want to move over the RAID 6, which needs an extra two or three drives over what I'm currently running. I was thinking about what to get for the past few months since I was debating on whether to keep using Ubuntu Server or to move to FreeNAS. However, FreeNAS requires some expensive hardware changes and it didn't have some features I wanted to play with (such as VM hosting, which is on Corral but Corral has been "recalled", so to speak). Plus, Newegg was having a sale on the 3TB drives, bringing them down to $100 each.

    So I'll be moving from a RAID 5 6TB setup to a RAID 6 9TB setup :)

Nice. I've got a FreeNAS system myself (currently 2 mirrored 3 TB Reds), with a Asrock Rack E3C236D2I motherboard with 16 GB DDR4 ECC RAM, and a Pentium G4500. I upgraded to Corral, but the whole debacle made me revert back to 9.10. They're apparently implementing bhyve and VMs in the next point update.

Forgetfulness and having money to burn. Both hallmarks of old age.

That is a really good cooler! TechPowerUp loves it. Far better than pulling the trigger on whichever custom solution is restocked first. :vbtongue:
