    Hi guys

I'm new to the site forum (but old fan of the NotebookReview.com page), so i hope you'll welcome me. :)

I've just got myself a 2nd hand 8510w which i'm very happy with!

Although, i'd very much like to upgrade the GPU to a more powerful one.

I read this thread about upgrading to a 770M, and someone wrote, that a 8510p could be upgraded with the GPU from a 8710p, so does anyone know if this is possible with a 8510w and GPU from the 8710w (FX 1600M)? Perhaps a 8600M GT with 512 MB GDDR3, or even a 9650M GT or 130M GT (depending on power usage and heat production)?

I've tried to google it, but haven't found anything useful.. :(

    Thanks alot in advance!

Which GPU does your 8510w have right now? (You know, it comes with either FX570M or the FireGL V5600) And what do you intent to use it for?

It has the 570M right now. Its intenses for school assignments and gaming. I need the performance for the new medal of Honor and Call of Duty pc games. :)

In case you don't already know, the 570M is the 8600mGT with GDDR3. That extra little bit of Vram isn't going to much a of a difference. What resolution screen do you have? In my opinion it is not worth the time or money upgrading a 3 year old (or more?) notebook. Also note that the FX1600M is based on the 8700mGT, which is actually an overclocked 8600mGT. And if you don't already know, Nvidia had alot of problems with their 8400m and 8600m, mobile GPUs. That link is only used to provide you with some basing back ground, the problems and resulting mess is recorded all over the internet including the NBR forums.

You will mostly be out of luck with new GPUs as the BIOs will unlikely recgonise them.

    By the way, I own a 8510p with HD2600 (softmodded to FireGL V5600). :)

I did know that FX 570 is using the same core as 8600M cards, but the more video memory the better and perhaps higher core and memory clocks.

My screen is 1680 x 1050, and mostly using this resolution for gaming also.
The higher resolution, the higher memory usage.

Well it would have been more fun with a 9650M, which is why im wondering if its possible to use such a card. :)

But you are probably right about the BIOS for this unit..

By the way, i just bought this laptop 2nd hand, so i won't be looking for a replacement instead - it's ridiculously expensive to live and being a student in denmark. :/
