Not with a closed lid but I did try HDMI & VGA still nothing on the screen I think I softbricked the card in my 8935g trying to get it to output to the internal display (did work over hdmi) I still have the original vbios.
I'm going to try the blind flash not sure why the intel igpu did not post

Intel GPU is disabled if an AMD GPU is installed. (It only works in parallel with NVIDIA GPUs in this generation.)

Well thanks for the advice chaps, I have found a well priced 970m (6gb) from a clevo for £160 do you have anymore advice about compatibility
I'm quiet sure that it should just plug & play.

All 970M cards I'm aware of are MXM 3.0 Type B and so the big ones physically not fitting into the M4600 so I wouldn't try that even the price is very very attractive...

Cheers mate but I was on about for a m6700, I originally hopped on this thread as it was the only ref to the w5170m that I could find
I'm going to order the card tomorrow thank you for the reply.

Hello, photographer here looking to display 3840 x 2160 (4K...ish) from my M4600 using a FirePro M5100. I currently am running the following:

    M4600
I7-2620m (2.7-3.4...which only goes to 3.2 for some strange reason)
    AMD FirePro M5950
    8GB Ram @ 1333
    500 GB / 7200rpm Toshiba HDD
Display Port on side of laptop

It looks from the following website that 3840 x 2160 is capable with the M5100:

    http://www.game-debate.com/gpu/inde...re=firepro-m5100-vs-geforce-gt-750m-2gb-gddr5

I also read that Display Port is capable of max of 3840 x 2160.

I have not found anywhere that anyone has done this. I do not have the 4K monitor yet but would purchase it upon successful upgrade of the M5100 and don't want to find out the hard way and end up having to purchase and return the QHD (2560 x 1440).

Thank You for your help! This Forum is Awesome!! Have learned so much over the years!

3.4Ghz is single core turbo, which you hardly see because its hardly ever tasked on a single core.

@Aaron44126 Would probably know more about your resolution limitation. IIRC You are using DP 1.1 as 1.2 was on the m6700 which probably means 1.1 was on the m6600/m4600. You will want to keep the cable to 6ft or there abouts to avoid any packet transmission issues.

If possible get the W5170m instead as its supports Vulkan and DX12 and is a "production" card. Higher core clock and memory base speeds. its the "same" GPU but is updated and probably supported for a longer period of time.

2860qm would be the best CPU but they are much more expensive compared to the i7 2760qm and only a 100Mhz speed difference. Looks like you're breathing some life into your system so I thought I would share that as well.

You need DisplayPort 1.2 to get 4K. M4700/M6700 is the first generation with DisplayPort 1.2. However, I think that it's more dependent on the GPU, it might be possible to get DP 1.2 on an M4600/M6600 if the GPU is upgraded to a later-generation model. I can't confirm this, I only suspect it, I don't remember seeing a post from anyone who has tried this specifically. I also don't know anything about which AMD GPU supports which DP version (I really only pay attention to NVIDIA).

TheReciever, thank you very much for your response. I have yet to have heard of the W5170m working with the M4600 as you speak of. I was really only interested because the FirePro M5100 is really reasonable these days. I have been stalking ebay looking for the 2860qm and want to pay 65-70 USD shipped.

Aaron44126, thank you for this information. I could not find the type of Display port that comes on the M4600 so THANK YOU!! What are your experiences with adapters? There is the DisplayPort 1.1 to HDMI 1.4 adapters. I read that HDMI can support 4K/UHD but only to 30hz.

    Thank You !
