What color is your DELL Studio 15/17? What other colors, if any, did you also consider? What color, pattern or trim options would you like to see offered on the Studio notebooks?

My Studio 15 is Midnight Blue, but I also considered Jet Black. I bought mine from DELL Outlet, so I would have been content with either color.

I also have a little confession to make- I LOVE the Plum Purple and seriously considered getting my Studio 15 in that color! Although I find the color visually appealing, I don't care for the name- Plum Purple sounds so flat. Wouldn't "Aubergine" sound more interesting, not to mention sounding classier! The same is true for the Spring Green color option- wouldn't it sound, and look, far more appealing as "Chartreuse"?

I question the wisdom of offering so many of the same colors from the Inspiron 1525 on the Dell Studios. The only solid color options currently available on teh Inspiron 1525 that haven't shown up on the option list for either Studio are Espresso Brown and Sunshine Yellow. Given the Studio's position above the Inspiron models, creating unique colors and patterns for Studio models only would've been a smart move! Colors like Tangerine Orange and Flamingo Pink seem too flashy for the otherswise understated, but tasteful, Studio notebooks.

When the Studio was first introduced, I actually thought Dell would offer unique color/design options that would seamlessly integrate with and complement the Studio's design. They actually did exactly that by offering a Graphite Gray exterior (the color of the wrist rest, touch pad and the trim on the inside edge of the display screen) with a choice of Black, Blue, Pink or Red Trim. The constrasting trim color was only used on the three visible sides/edges of the lid/display- just a splash of color as an accent.

For unknown reasons, Dell recently stopped offering the Graphite Gray with accent trim color! Reviewers and consumers alike have been puzzled by the asymmetrical "squiggly" lines molded into the wrist rest and touchpad of all Studio notebooks, regardless of exterior color. In one review, it was compared to a water spill and another reviewer initially thought the unit was scratched and/or damaged! The Graphite Gray models had this strange pattern covering the lid as well, which might explain why it has been discontinued. Sadly, it's one of those design ideas that seemed cool in conceptual form, but didn't translate nearly as well into reality.

I'd like to see the Studio offered in deep, elemental tones such as Charcoal Gray, Brick Red, Slate Silver/Gray, Bronze and Titanium. Even Ocean Blue could have possibilities. The Graphite Gray (sans 'squiggles') should make a return as well and be offered with black, nickel and bronze accents...

I'll quit ranting for now. I just think that Dell Studio models have a LOT of untapped potential and get pushed aside for the lastest shiny object that appears! Until Dell decides to market them more effectively and aggressively, we can all revel in the knowledge that we got MORE for substantially LESS than what the other guys are peddling. AND we don't need multiple polishing cloths and a lifetime supply of Stainless Steel Polish to make our notebooks presentable.....Dell gets some major points for steering clear of glossy black finishes and chrome-like materials that are impossible to keep clean. I love my DELL! :D

I got my studio 17 in the Ruby Red color, and it's ok, but I didnt know the covers were coated with a rubberized material. I'm not wild about that I would have preferred a solid glossy lid like the Gateways have, Gateway uses a glossy material that has the color all the way through the material so scratches are not a problem they buff right out. This rubbery stuff Dell used is very disappointing, and it's also very dull looking. I'd say the rubbery lid makes it easier to pick it up and hold on to it when it's closed, but the rubber coating is very tacky looking and it feels kinda cheap. Im sure that a scratch on this rubberized material is going to make a permanent mark if not even remove a portion of this coating, so I'd have to say handle with great care it doesnt look or feel very durable at all.

I think had I known it was a rubber coating I'd have gotten the 17" Gateway fully loaded instead. But I like this Dell, I'm not a Dell fan, I've never had a laptop until now and I've built 5 of my own personal PC's over the past 16 years. So I didnt know what to expect from Dell, other than some people I talked to who had them say they didnt have any trouble with them.

I thought about the Purple, or the Black, and I'm kinda wishing I picked the Purple instead because the Red is not as deep a red as the picture online looks. I was thinking it was more of a very deep red almost into the burgandy range but its not. I'd call it plain red myself.

One thing I do notice on my Studio 17 is that the fan runs and runs a lot, and I've checked the CPU temps and most of the time the temp is right around 36 degrees Celcius, and I dont think when the laptop is stone cold the fan should be coming on but mine does. I'll have to look into the Bios to see if there are any settings for this or if I need a softwary utility for the fan.

Outside of a fan running a lot I like the Dell, I'm glad I got the WLED screen, its almost always turned down to the lowest brightness setting which is very bright. Its also a lot easier on the eyes.

Seaweed here, I love it! Check out my sig.

I am going to put higher-res photo's on tonight (I promise! - going on business so I'll have down-time in airport), will update my post.\

I considered Sea Sky and Bunch o' Surfers, but decided that Seaweed would age the best. The others would look dated, I think, in some time. Seaweed is a great piece of art. Especially on my huge 17'' lid.

As for laptop trim/colors, I would have liked to gotten the 'topo' design on my palmrests.
