For educational purposes only. The Y500 Ultrabay GPU will not fit in the Y400 and vice-versa because the cases are different dimensions.

    Nice pics, very interesting.
Is the black tape (in the first picture) grounding tape for the fan intake copper blades?
Mine looks like it will rip off / come up if I keep inserting and removing my Y500 Ultrabay GPU card.

Grounding tape? Lol no. It's just regular electrical tape. I put it there exactly because the black tape covering the fan was lifting off due to removal. I don't think it serves any real purpose besides cosmetics since the metal underneath is silver.

Because I got the GN36 before I got my machine, the first thing I did was disassemble it out of curiosity, heh. I couldn't find enough information myself on the Ultrabay parts. If I knew about svl7(?) and him needing the picture of the vbios chip, I would have taken pictures. Maybe I should have anyways to sate other peoples curiosity.

Oh well, too bad, I do hope that fellow gets the modded vbios working though. :D

1000% no. It would not get recognized because the display and video outs are connected to the main GPU.

Also, where would it fit? And that's not a standard connector either. It looks like m-PCIe with metal mounting brackets on both male and female ends, presumably to increase durability for frequent insertions and removals.

The only reason this works in the Y500 is because of SLI. We can't even select the Ultrabay GPU to be primary and disable the internal one.
