I'm traveling, and I'm scared that my notebook will be stolen at the hotel.
The hotel instructions even say to not leave valuables in the room.
So I'm forced to carry my 17 inch M90 behemoth everywhere.
    (My T30 died last month)

I'm seriosly considering getting a smaller lighter laptop just for travel purposes, perhaps a D830. But its SOOO hard to justify speding another $1.6k when I just bought the M90 last summer.

I traveled with my 6000 a couple of times. I didn't want to carry it either and usually it was to large to fit in the safes. So I would wrap it in a convencingly folded towel and put it in the top of the closet. Then I would hide my Targus backpack (dead give away) where ever I could manage to tuck it away. Usually either under a bed, in a closet, or in provided dressers. I never had either stolen. I did this at the Contemporary Resort at Disney too and the Disney World resorts are notorious for house keeping stealing merchandise from the rooms.

Most of the times I travel, it's for business so my laptop is with me most of the time. I have left it in the hotel room a couple of times and nothing's happened to it. If you're uncomfortable about it, just lock it on the security box in the room (if it has any) or inside your luggage with a lock.

Hotel rooms often offer a safe or something - but you should check with the policy of the hotel just in case. I'm not sure "hiding" it will do much though - housekeeping will go all over the place in that room just in the course of their routine (assuming they actually clean thoroughly), so they'll probably find it eventually just by accident anyway.

In no event would I ever leave my laptop in a hotel room though. Don't even leave it in the car for 5 minutes! Keep it with you unless it's absolutely safe.

I put it in a drawer under clothing.

I usually just put it it in my suitcase/luggage and cover it with clothes - so it is somewhat concealed :)

I usually don't empty my Luggage when traveling, so I put it in between clothes in my luggage, pad lock it and then put in the corner of the closet. That's safer than putting it in my truck IMO. For some reason no matter how well hidden your valuables are in you ride, it's like thieves can always tell.

Does your room have a safe? Why bring your computer on vacation?

Notebooks are portable computers after all you know? Atleast the ones that aren't 13 pounds. =D

The safes in the Hotel rooms are usually too small to fit a 15' inch laptop.
