Been lurking around their site for a few days trying to decide which laptop to buy. I've finally come to a "kind of" decision for the 17.3" Optimus IV. Seems like a good laptop to me and within my price range. I actually think for the price it's a very good deal...although I could be wrong since I'm still a bit clueless with laptops :D

At the moment I still have my laptop from our friends at Kobaltcomputers.com ^^ Anyway I like Clevo so someone directed me to PCspecialist. If anyone has a better UK company suggestion then please let me know!

Preferably I wanted to wait a few more months for the Nvidia 7 series to come out, but it looks like my laptop is on the verge of breaking down. Should I grab myself a new laptop from them now? It has a GTX 660M which is a massive upgrade to my current laptop.

OR is it worth painstakingly waiting a few months for the next series (I heard it may be comingout in Spring) or will the wait not be worth the upgrade?

    Thanks!

The next series of CPUs will be out around june at the earliest. Probably july or so. The GTX 7xx series from nVidia... that's a different story. MAYBE same time as haswell. Maybe later in the year. Maybe it won't come out at all and will go straight to maxwell in 2014. No telling.

As for the wait, if you could get a good new machine right now, I'd say go ahead. If a laptop's breaking down I wouldn't wait myself. Hell if I could upgrade right now I would XD.

I don't know of a good UK dealer, sorry. Check the reseller feedback subforum?

I have spent a fortune on my last 3 laptops from them :) They are the best all round i have found- price, service, knowledge etc

With any company , i always think its best to ring up before you order on line and have a 20 min chat with the sales team- they are all trained pc folk, so ask any question or worry you have.

They are very highly regarded, and you will find 98 positive reviews for 1 negative - also the courier they use , gives you a "one hour" delivery slot, which is great as you know when your new toy will arrive.

Theres always a discount code flying around as well for pcspecialist , that gives you £15 pounds off - in any advert of there's Better than nothing, on already great prices :)

I would ring up sales, ask for matthew , and let him take your order. You will be in good hands :)

Just a happy customer, whose been treated well here, so all good recommendations from me :)

P.s. , if you start the waiting game there is always something better coming out - the power of the cards just now and the price, is at a really great place, and i think even if there is a new series coming out, it wont be the same massive leap as from the 6990 / 580 to the 7970m 680m .

    Hope this helps

    Pj

All the big laptop reveals will be at Computex at the beginning of June and then it will take at least another month for them to start hitting the retail channels. Generally speaking, expect the new Clevo's to be in people's hands (if they pre-order) no earlier than mid July.

Thanks for the replies guys! I'll deffo get into contact with them. How long does it usually take between the purchase and delivery to the door?

So waiting till the 7 series is really not worth it? Because someone told me they are gonna be a a massive upgrade to the 6 series.

ONLY if the GTX 7xx series is Maxwell in architecture, which isn't slated to come out until 2014. It won't be anytime soon if it is. The GTX 7xx series is most likely going to be a power-revised form of the GTX 6xx series, like the GTX 5xx was to the GTX 4xx. The difference is that the GTX 6xx series isn't as unoptimized by default as the GTX 4xx series was, so a power revision may not improve much for it. Assuming it's even done, as for all I know there could simply be no high end 7xx series. The 3xx series was only present in low end to medium end mobile cards, and desktops skipped it entirely, going from the GTX 2xx series to the GTX 4xx series. So we'll never know. But we can just hope.

End of story, if you want a machine now, or even a month from now, it's not worth waiting for the revisions. They won't be THAT much better than the current available options.

That person is very incorrect. Massive upgrades come with die shrinks and architectural changes. The former happened in 2012, and the latter is scheduled for 2014.

Thanks MrDJ! Helping me all around here :D Hopefully your suggestions work and I can still use my current laptop for a while longer or give it to a family member. Does anyone know how much better the GTX 670M is? I'd rather a 17" laptop again but I could grab the next one up with a 15" but a GTX 670M.
