Based on what we saw them announce vs the pontification to that point in this thread, I would not ask and wait for them to release info
Granted at least with this release there's something concrete to base an assumption on. But still, just wait.

    Thank you for that.

I am a bit new, and have only been in this hobby since 880M, so I have to read from what happened in the past to make an idea on how things are.

Okay then, Let's wait to see how skimped the M version is, and if it surpasses GTX980desktop.

There's a very good chance the 1080M will perform at the 1070 level. That's how it has almost always been - 980M performs closely to a 970, etc.

This means that the 1080M should be near or better than a Titan X.

I don't see 1080M being at Titan X level, mostly because 1080's efficiency over 980 isn't very good. Also if you look at heir efficiency curves 980 drops off quite a bit at higher TDP while 1080 is mostly flat. What does that mean? It means GP104 loses a lot more performance when you reduce power as 980 doesn't have that much performance to lose at higher TDP. As for 1070 performance faster than Titan X that sounds a bit fishy, the 1080 is only 20% faster at best and it has 8.87 Tflops of SP performance while 1070 has only 6.5, that's nearly a 37% performance delta and it has weak memory bandwidth so how in the world can it outperform a Titan X. As for 1080M performance desktop 1070 is 150W+ so there is gona be another 15-20% gap between the 1080M and 1070, even at 125W TDP. I would say it will be 50% faster than 980M when not bandwidth starved, 60% at best in rare cases.

Lol Logan saying "This river is about knee deep, so that's all I expect for the performance increase." Turns out he was right.

The last part of that video when they're chatting about the performance after the event has finished, that was a real snore fest, they seemed impressed but I don't think they've really looked at the numbers like I did earlier - I mean it's only 65% more performance per Watt than Maxwell, and that's on a new architecture and also after 2 node shrinks all the way down from 28nm->20nm->16nm - when it's looked in that context 65% is not impressive.

1080m will definitely be Titan x performance. Possibly more. I promise that. Plus Jen loves his hype trains and I can just imagine him yelling " Titan x in a laptop!!" And the crowd going crazy.

if that happens, even I might be forced not to buy Polaris... AMD better come up with a GTX1080 killer when they release Polaris or they will be royally screwed!
