Hi folks, first time here. Also my first time changing out a video card. As the title implies, I'm trying to upgrade my 980m to a 1070mxm. The GeForce drivers said both were covered under the driver package so I just assumed I could swap the cards and be done with it. Well the laptop booted but after about two minutes, the screen went grey and said "locking" then shut down. After that it did the same at the login screen. Then it just wouldn't boot. It works fine after putting the old 980m back in. So clearly I'm missing some crucial step here. With the 980m in, my BIOS doesn't really have any GPU options in it aside from performance scaling. What do I need to do to make this 1070mxm work?

I find its best not to make assumptions until we get more details, considering OP thought it was plug'n'play I gather that no driver mod has been applied

Those are the repurposed P5000 PCB with GTX 1070 dies.

Im only aware of the MSi 1070 and Clevo 1070's to be working in Clevo systems but Im not all knowing so its possible there is precedent elsewhere on the net.

If you cant find precedent of that specific card working in your system then yes I would return it and get the proper card
