    Hello!

I was hopping to find some help around here!
The power light will start turning on and off orange, and exactly 30 seconds after it will turn off.

That started happening a few days ago when my CPU fan stopped working, so its clearly related to that. I tried taking it completely out or leaving it on but the problem persists.

At first I thought it was because the temperature of the CPU was going very high and then turning off the computer to avoid damage to the components, but looking at the sensors I realized that was actually not the case.

Now, here comes the funny part. As long as I press Fn+1 twice to max the fans speed and stop them afterwards (even if they only do that for half a second) that is enough for the orange light to go away for exactly another 30 seconds, where it will start doing it again. The temperature of both GPU and CPU don't go over 60c as long as I don't use the computer for gaming or something like that, so I know is safe to keep doing this.

Do you guys know if there is any way to keep the computer running while having only the GPU fan? I would try to put the GPU fan on the CPU fan slot and see if that works...But I stripped one of the GPU screws on the cooler and can't remove the fan atm because the connector sits under the GPU.

It is pretty annoying having to keep pressing the Fn+1 twice constantly just to keep the PC on even if I'm going to do something that the CPU will be completely safe.
I'm looking for a solution, because I'm in Japan, and importing a new fan is going to take about 2 weeks or so to get here (at best and paying like $30 extra in shipping).

    Thanks!

Most likely EC panic from not receiving tach signal. Same thing will likely happen if you switch gpu fan to the cpu.

I see! Thanks for your fast answer to my question!
I'm guessing that there is no way to turn EC panic off, since it souns it should be a physical mod of sorts...

Might be a viable short term solution while you wait for an replacement fan,
    https://hardforum.com/threads/generate-fan-rpm-signal-w-o-fan.1606397/

Or do a macro that simulates fn+d every 25s on repeat, this probably isn't the best solution in the long run.

I'm surprised things take longer to get from china in japan rather than the uk.

Another way could be to tap into the rpm sense / tach wire from the existing fan and feed that signal to the empty fan port (use the connector from the damaged fan to make it easier ).

Fans will all eventually die, replacements are usually not too bad to source.
