I need some help/direction. I have a P770ZM-G that won't post. I turn it on, after about 20 seconds the fans go to max, the Lock (Caps, Num., Scrl) LEDs slowly flash a few times and it shuts down. GPU 970m.

What have you done so far to resolve the issue? When did it start? Any symptoms before that?

No symptoms before that. I was using it, it cut off. Then it wouldn't post. I thought it was like leaving it on battery too long and it going to sleep. But it was plugged in. I might have been encoding with the fans on max so it wouldn't have been abnormal for max fans when it shutdown.

It happened quite a while ago. I bought it from ****logic and you know the rest. It was/is under warranty and I waited.

I have a P750DM2-G, which just went down too. That might be the next thread.:( I, previously, used it's battery and power brick to eliminate the ZM's. I reset the BIOS by removing the CMOS for 30 seconds plus. The only change after that was if I plug it in it will turn on by itself and go through the same shutdown sequence as described.

Were the machines using the same power brick/plugged into the same plug? When you have multiple failures it's worth investigating external factors.

No, machines were not on same brick at time of failures. As to plug, the ZM was powered through one surge protector 95% of the time.

The DM was on a different surge protector at home and at work. The home strips were the same outlet though. That outlet did not kill my old Dell.

I had a local repair shop take the ZM yesterday. He tested and says it's the 970m. He will try to reflow with a machine he has. A replacement will be the next option.

The DM had a gradual, but not long, failure. Not waking from sleep, some times. I updated display driver then wouldn't let it sleep after that didn't work. Then the screen went black with it on, to eventually no display but not shutting down. It will power on but no display and no external display.

Sounds a bit like board or GPU failure. Good to hear you found a tech that can attempt a reflow.

Yeah, I may have gotten lucky with the tech. I thought the MB too, but what do I know. :D

He may get the DM next.

Unless you have equipment or spares it is hard to say.
