my stock cpu cant seem to transcode very well anymore and its time to upgrade my cpu. i want to get as much maximum life and cpu power for transcoding out of my cpu upgrade. I see that the x9000 is superior by a small margin and runs a bit cooler than the x7900. But its 65+ dollars more expensive. I plan on overclocking, undervolting and using throttlestop and would like to keep the fans quiet as I possibly can.

    recommendation?

The x9000 is about the best you could get for what you are looking at doing with this setup.
