    Hey All,

Its been years since I posted last.

Just ordered the above spec laptop for about $3500 CDN, all in. I thought it was a pretty good deal. Wondering though if I should wait just one month to see the new specs come out in the new Area 51M - that is, if they even update it in a month.

Anybody else on the fence right now and checking?

I would if I were you. The current model is crippled with BIOS issues. You either have to manually downgrade to get the full performance which is not a straight forward task or be in the latest BIOS updates which are forced upon you and start throttling the GPU the moment it reaches 75C which is a very low threshold.

Wait and see what's next as I can only imagine it would be night and day better.

Well - I just bought the 5 year accidental damage protection on it...if it starts to smoke then I guess they'll give me a new system or something.

Hardware wise, it probably is not that big of a deal, the 10900k from the looks of it is just a rehashed 9900k, so you could just overclock it to match or exceed the performance. On the gpu side of things, i dont think the 2080super for laptops is coming anytime soon so its a meh on that front.

what the others have said though, is the various bios issues nad othe rissues that the area51m is experiencing, you can have a browse through the area51m owners lounge thread to get an idea of whats happening. Best bet would be to wait on the next refresh to see if there are fixes in my opinion

I'm in the same situation, got the 14% discount for the Area51m but delivery will take 14-21days.
Would a 2080 super be worth 300-500€ over the 2080?
About the CPU I think it doesn't matter for gaming.

Look at the benchmarks: 2080 super is about 5% faster variant of the 2080. It's main feature is that it's significantly cheaper at launch than 2080 was. IMHO clearly not worth 300-500 euros, so if it was just down to Super vs non-Super you'd have a trivial decision. However, a new 51M model might offer some other compelling features, we don't know. On the other hand, a new 51M might not come for months, or Dell could ruin it, just like they castrated the m15 R2.

You know , new revisions come and go ... you won’t go wrong either way. Plus if you have extended warranty , picking up this model is not a bad idea.

What makes you believe the next generation is going to be any less crippled with cancer firmware, bro? Skunks never change their stripes. If I were going to take a wild guess, next-gen will be even more crippled. They always castrate everything they sell. And, they'll probably just reuse the same inadequate design that was not properly engineered to cool a 9900K with a higher clocked CPU with more cores/threads. But, you might be able to run the RAM at 2666 while the mainstream turdbooks are running RAM at 3000 or higher.
