So I ordered a Y540 for $1488 CAD (roughly 1120 USD) from the Lenovo website with the TSM10 coupon, free shipping and student discount as configured:
    ● Intel Core i7-9750H (2.60GHz, up to 4.50GHz with Turbo Boost, 6 cores, 12MB Cache)
    ● 8GB DDR4 2666MHz
    ● 1TB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm
    ● 256GB Solid State Drive, M.2, PCIe-NVMe
    ● 17.3" FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS, 300nits, anti-glare, 144MHz
    ● NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1660 Ti 6GB

But I'm slightly regretting it because now that I look the preconfigured version with the 2060, 16gb ram, and all the same other specs is only $60 CAD more ($1548 CAD). The Y740 with the same specs is only $288 CAD more ($1776 CAD). I'm leaning towards at least trying to change the order to the 2060 Y540.

The price you paid is fair for the included hardware, but I agree that the preconfigured model with the RTX 2060 is worth the extra. (In fact, the upcharge is worthwhile if only for the 16GB of RAM.)

The Y740 is a better built computer in my opinion. It also has a keyboard with dedicated macro keys, a sleeker design, and G-Sync.

Another difference between the y540 and the 740 is that the y540 is made entirely of plastic while the y740 is made of aluminum plus it has a thunderbolt port, the y540 does not.

Also RTX 2060 is about 5-10% faster than the 1660ti, not much of a difference unless you care about raytracing feature with the RTX GPUs

Ended up paying a lil extra for that Y740, it just arrived today. It's perfect except for the backlight bleed, because mine came with a crappy AUO panel. There's a much better LG panel it can come with, so I've requested them to replace mine, just waiting for it to arrive. It surprisingly also came with a 1tb PM981, which I think makes up for at least half the extra I paid for. I'll be selling this to a friend for a quick $150 because I have a faster 1tb HP EX920 already that I wanted to stick in this. So I basically only paid 133 CAD more for the Y740 bonuses like gsync and bigger battery.
