My current car is a 2006 Mazda3 s 5-door (hatchback) that I bought new in 12/05. It has 67k miles on it and is in good condition overall. It also has a manual transmission (aka: stick shift), which is all I've owned in almost 20 years of driving. I commute all over metro Atlanta at various times of day and traffic is a real pain in a stick!

It just so happens that the brand new, redesigned 2010 Mazda3 was introduced a few months ago! :D I test drove one this afternoon (with Automatic Transmission...and Moonroof & BOSE stereo) and LOVED it!

On one hand, I'm trying to be frugal these days just like everyone else. That voice in my head is telling me it's crazy to make a major purchase right now. On the other hand, the deals are great ($100 over invoice) and I can get a LOT of car $20,730 ($21,790 with TTL/OTD)! I'd also get 4.9% APR for 60mos. My payment would be $366/mo, which is only about $30 more than I'm paying on my '06.

What do you folks think I should do???

I say if you love the '10 model and you can afford it, go for it. The incentives are good right now, and you still have decent trade-in value on an '06.

since you are making payments already i dont see why not, and most likely with a little more haggling i bet you can get the price below invoice

Well, when you put it like "only 30 bucks more a month," I'd say go for it. (on the other hand, I'll be buried in my 92 Crown Vic)

Of course, I'm being self-delusional saying it's "only $30 more per month". While that's true, my current car will be paid off in July 2010 vs. June 2014!

Deluding oneself is analogous to being happy, in the same sense that ignorance is bliss, and therefore yields large quantities of zoom zoom. :D

(Edit: As you can see, I acidently missed my shrink appiontment last year)

    NOW NOW NOW! :D

The current economic pressure to get cars sold will allow for more bargaining with the dealers, allowing them to go lower with the price to get cars sold. In your situation, it's a great time to sign on the dotted line.. :D

I think I'm struggling with buying my first Automatic as much (or more) than the overall new car decision. I'll be conceding to the fact that I've hit my mid-30's and my clutch leg/knee/foot is getting tired....
