Probably ultra on most things. It's higher resolutions where it starts to slow down, and at 4K it struggles.

And what about games that will appear in the coming 2 years?

You will probably have to lower settings but unless you want to chase ray tracing you should be fine.

I'd wait for that bandwagon to settle down before I hop on.

Pretty much yeah. You'll more likely be CPU bottlenecked.

It should still play them just fine, though turned down a bit like you may have to run something at high instead of ultra.

Well definitely above 30 for a smooth gameplay.
Like I am looking forwards to some upcoming games like the Metro and the latest Total Warhammer 2 that I cant play smoothly on my 860m right now.

The GTX 1070 will do just fine. Take a look at Notebookcheck's benchmarks and you'll see the GTX 1070 is mostly surpassing 60 fps in Ultra at 1080p. If you add the fact that sometimes Ultra and High settings have little visual difference then you have a lot more wiggle room.

In the particular case of TW:W2, Creative Assembly is stating these system requirements:

    PC 60fps+ Specifications:

Expected 60 FPS+ on campaign map and in a 1v1, 20 units vs 20 units battle, default graphics preset set to “Ultra”, running at 1920×1080

    Operating System: Windows 7/8.1/10 64Bit

    Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-4790K 4.0 GHz

    RAM: 8 GB

    Install size: 60 GB

Video Card: Nvidia GTX 1070 8GB

If your objective is 30+ fps then the GTX 1070 should serve you well

Thanks for info, but with the 11xx series coming this summer or near, I'm very hesitant to get one now.
