Fantastic. I haven't had time to do any more tinkering. Haven't even run FSE or FSU yet. I'll have more time in a couple of weeks to get into my crazy go nuts overclocking zone. What kind of core voltage settings does it need for 5.2GHz and 5.3GHz? Man, don't you just love the chiller?

The weird thing for me is, the 7960X actually got higher physics scores at the same clock speed in all 3DMark and 3DMark 11 benches. Not sure why, but it seems the extra cores and threads slow it down in everything other than Cinebench and wPrime benchmarks.

Thanks Brother. :) It feels so good to finally get to driving the 7980XE again ...it's way more fun than the 3970x lol. I don't think I've ever ripped off a mobo off of the test bench as fast as I did.

The voltages are pretty respectable at 52x and 53x although it's near, but below 1.50v... I'll give you a buzz later to geek out about the 7980XE...

I have an idea about the 7960x...the characteristics could be similar to the traits of other cpu's that I've tested.

You can pass that 3970X my way, if you want....:D

Once I had uploaded that 4.6GHz submission, I had incoming inquiries almost immediately. For work station tasks, it's a great CPU and it's pretty on par with Intel's W-3175X in that regard, but by far the Threadripper is a much smarter buy all around for its price, availability and practicality; not to mention that the 3175X can act as a furnace to heat the whole house, literally lol.

Once AMD matures a bit with their new process node and sorts out their latency issues, it'll still trail behind with its ability to scale well, other than multi-threaded tasks.

    - The evidence of working with such a new process node can be seen with the fact that AMD still has issues with their core frequency. It would have been nice if they had addressed this first, but the reality is that they're not able to at this given time even if they wanted to, because if it was the case that they could up the frequency, they would have been all over that as the 5.0Ghz is the psychological mile stone in the CPU world. The big question is, will AMD be able to accomplish this before Intel answers back with whatever they have up their sleeves? Only time will tell.

As I've said before, I appreciate where AMD excels, but as an enthusiast and gamer the natural go to choice is still the 9900K/KF/KS. Being able to run that at 5.3GHz on all cores is really nice and in most cases the CPU OC brings more benefits from the minimal gains of GPU OC.

At the end of the day...all fun stuff.

Thanks. I try to help my son with some cheap because buy new tech now is stupid. He have more than enough money (he is in work) but spend 320 for ram and graphics now is much better than pay $4.5K right now on soon old hardware. Nice when the kids listening on us old. Not always this is possible:D
