Glad to see someone else that can appreciate good laptop speakers. I miss the front firing speakers Alienware’s used to have. Only Razer seems to care about having speakers that don’t fire downward and actually have some volume. Too bad besides the Blade 14 I had every Razer I’ve touched has cut me. Pun intended. :(

Front firing speakers doesn’t make the big magic when the engineers hate spend money on a sub. Amazing that they couldn’t put it in their 17 inch gaming flagship. Cost savings can sometimes blind them totally doing it correctly from the beginning.

How much better is GT83VR vs GT73VR sound?

The GT73VR has really good sound, but after tuning, it beats my M18xR2 in terms of bass only. My M18xR2 is slightly louder and has good balanced sound.

Area-51m is good but lacks bass, it's louder than them all.

P870DM/DM3 series has loudest of them all and has bass under or around M18xR2.

If I were to rate as "overall":

    P870DMx
    M18xR2
    GT73VR
    Area-51m

    In terms of bass:

    GT73VR
    M18xR2
    P870DMx
    Area-51m

    In terms of loudness:

    P870DMx
    Area-51m
    M18xR2
    GT73VR

IMO, keeping in mind they all have really good sound except the Area-51m lacks bass which kills it.

My Area-51m has front firing speakers, I'm assuming you are referring to the BGA models?

Area-51m lacks subwoofer though so no bass. Wonder if I can add in a sub and replace HDD slot...LOL

To give you an example a GT72 subwoofer is probably 2/3 the power of a GT83 sub. What the GT83 sub is good at is low range, this is complemented by two woofers at the top too, if you disconnected the sub you’d still get decent bass. Basically the 5.1 audio setup is what makes it sound amazing. Bass can go to about the 40hz range easily due to the massive space allocated to the gt83vr sub, not to mention cripple free audio drivers. It sounds like a 3 - 4 inch sub when maxed out although a p870dm-g would beat it in terms of loudness.

I’d rate it like so out of all my laptops:

    Overall:

    MSI GT83VR

    MacBook Pro 16

Clevo P870 series - my KM sounded worse than the DM I had, no idea why...

Alienware 18 and M18 X2 (dell crippled some of the low range frequencies, with the normal windows driver it sounds amazing)

MSI GT72VR (amazing surround sound quality but the mids and highs are washed out by a lot of bass :D)

Alienware Area 51m (Sounds worse than my iPhone XS Max in terms of bass... actually in terms of everything, the iPhone gets louder too ROFL. How the hell did dell achieve this who knows... :D)

In terms of sheer power (loudness):

Clevo P870 series - these laptops will make your ears bleed at 100% volume believe me.

GT83VR - Nice overall balance the high end isn’t crazy loud like the P870 sounds like a more powerful setup tuned for most people’s ears...

GT72 - Loud but unfortunately not as loud as the other two, also has some annoying chassis rattling at high volume

MacBook Pro 16 - Loud but there is some kind of volume limiter in place, like it gets loud then quiet again almost like some speaker protection is put in place. It still sounds amazing though.

Alienware 18 and M18x R2 - These laptops are loud but I expected louder to be honest, at least the sound is balanced...

    Alienware 51M - Trash

I forgot about the Macbook pro 16! I would put it right on top of M18xR2.

Interesting, I will have to look up GT83VR sub on eBay and see if I can transplant it later....hehe

Regarding your KM, I know my DM sounded good, DM3 even better. I am assuming they switched chipset or software to make it worse.

Regarding AW18/M18x series...Dell crippled AW18 bass for sure.

M18x however, what you need to do is turn off the Recon 3Di bass and use equalizer instead. It makes a huge difference.

Yeah bro, just make sure you have enough space for it, it is a decently sized sub, also get the newer version not the older one without the cone thingy in the middle...

I compared it against the GT70 sub and they were neck and neck in certain frequencies but the lower the range got it was clear the GT83 sub was better. It sounded like a car sub at low volume lol. Dynaudio knows a thing or two about this, they do make a lot of German cars stereo systems...

I wish they would cost save on the RGB instead of things that matter.

Subs take up a lot of space too.

Your forgetting the Laptop inside porn shots!
But yes i would love to see what Performance is like along with temps, along side on what BIOS options are available.
Specially more so now i have committed to this model now after taking way to long to decide which Clevo to get.
