Indeed, it's a good way to dissipate some of the heat into the motherboard. Even if the controller might be facing the wrong side, you still benefit from it.

Plus it can still get direct air flow that way.

In the p870 at least, you have a fan that's manages to circulate the air underneath the keyboard. And you can even mount an nvme drive right on top of it.

But if I recall it's labeled SSD2, not sure if it matters whether you run your nvme drive in there or SSD1 slot.

They all benefit from the flow that fan creates.

Yes, but the nvme slot labeled SSD2 is directly over the fan. I wasn't sure if it mattered if the primary drive was installed there or SSD1 slot.

No, not really unless it's a super hot drive you want to hammer all day long.

I think it will obstruct more airflow having it there, since it does a good job circulating air underneath the keyboard. And it doesn't get hot with a couple thermal pads between the drive and the motherboard.

The fan is mainly drawing fro. The outside and that drive is the hottest thing under the keyboard usually.

Yes, it does create underpresseure and you can actually feel air being sucked under the keyboard.
