Unfortunately I do not believe the power output is the problem. This is why:

When I connect the monitor to ALL usb slots after having all power saving settings off that I can think of, I achieve the same results. The monitor lights up and shows the ASUS logo, then goes black and the power button on the side goes from white to amber indicating no signal. This is the same exact thing that happens on my desktop with 3.0 ports as well as the sager np9752.

The laptop is clearly outputting power to the monitor, the issue seems to be the picture.

On a side note, I have been playing GTA5 on my NP9752 and it runs it very well. The only complaint I have is the mouse input seems somewhat choppy/laggy perhaps.

Keep the solutions coming people! Lets solve the second monitor issue!

I would still give one of these a try though...not too much money for a potential solution...

If I remember correctly, that means you are boned. Google search the black screen and check on the forums for Asus (if I remember correctly from when I considered buying one last summer)... It is incompatible and you won't find out much more than that in searches. I have not played with it or checked out OS settings...

Looks like a Y-cable might actually work or at least, it did for this guy below but his issue might have been different obviously and as I suspected, I just looked up the specs for his laptop and it only has usb 2.0 on it (he could have been running usb 3.0 via the expansion slot but I think he would have mentioned this)...if you have a different usb 3.0 cable (especially a high quality one like the Cable Matters one below), you might give that a shot too...I have had severe issues with a few devices with certain cheaper usb 3.0 cables and maybe the cable that ships with this monitor is faulty or just doesn't play well with certain usb 3.0 ports for some reason...

Cable Matters USB 3.0 cable...I use this for a couple of devices and really like it but there are definitely other good ones out there, too...

    Cable Matters Y-cable...

other people are saying the problem is the cable, too...

and if neither the Y-cable or a high quality usb 3.0 cable work for you, maybe DisplayLink could help you (and really me too! haha) like they helped him...

Cool! What resolution/quality settings have you managed to get out of it?

My current laptop (an ancient Dell XPS 15 from work) isn't really up to running GTA V. It can achieve 20fps at 720 and all quality settings at medium =(

I'll have to wait for my Batman to arrive before I can really play it!

Well your new batman should put the consoles to shame at least, I am going to try it out on my setup later today hopefully.

I haven't tested the actual FPS yet, however, I am able to run it at 1920x1080 on all settings completely maxed out smoothly offline and online.

On a side note, my np9752 has the i7 4790k, 16 gigs kingston 1866 ram, 15.6 inch IPS screen, and gtx 980m 8 gigs.

I still am highly skeptical of power being the issue, and the connection and cable quality is actually very secure with no play. I am going to order the Y Cable that you linked with amazon prime and give you an update once it gets here.

If anyone else has a solution or has run into this please feel free to come forward!

P.S. Rasta, how long till your monitor arrives?
