Since the x17 supports XMP profiles, do you guys think it would be compatible with this?:

    https://www.newegg.com/corsair-32gb-260-pin-ddr4-so-dimm/p/N82E16820236369?Item=N82E16820236369

If Alienware is going to gouge me $300 for some ram, I might as well get this and get the best out of it.

Also, if the stock xmp profile for these sticks (3600mhz @ CL16) ends up not working, I can always go down to 3466 right? It also runs at 1.35v, do you guys think these sticks will run too hot? Dells “Dual opposite outlet” fan will blow air over the NVME/Ram, but I want to get your guys opinions on this.

I’m not super familiar with xmp overclocking. Any help answering these questions would be much appreciated!

Edit: I just realized that the link above is for 4x8gb sticks (the x17 only has two slots), so if I end up getting these to test and they work I’ll sell the other two to whoever wants them for half price (~$160)!

Worth a shot, but bear in mind there've been recent reports of poor compatibility of Corsair RAM with Area 51M. Hyperx Impact should ba a safe bet though.

Those are designed for X299 mini-ITX desktop boards with SO-DIMM slots (hence why they come in a set of 4 for quad channel), the 3600MHz XMP profile absolutely will not work in any laptop. You can maybe get some decent speeds/timings with a manual profile since they are B-die, if the X17 has an unlocked BIOS with memory tuning options and an easy CMOS reset method. But you'll be much better off getting Corsair Vengeance 3000MHz CL16 modules (also B-die) as XMP should work OOTB. There are also G.Skill Ripjaws (Hynix) and Crucial Ballistix (Rev. E) 3200MHz CL16 modules, but it's doubtful XMP will work on those as they were hit-or-miss on Coffee/Comet Lake laptops, and Coffee/Comet lake has a stronger IMC than Tiger Lake. Not to mention, 3200MHz and higher runs in Gear 2 on Tiger Lake, which reduces performance, so again you'd need an unlocked BIOS to set 3200MHz+ to Gear 1.

Ah i see, thanks for the info! By the looks of it, it sounds like I’m better off just getting the 3466mhz xmp ram option, right?

Or maybe I should wait to see the reviews? If I understand correctly, the only thing that matters is the latency, correct? Faster ram at a lower cl can be slower than a slower stick with higher cl, right? So the 3466mhz ram may not be that much faster than the 3200 if the cl is higher.

Don't expect fantastic mem latency in any Dell laptops. m15 R6 with Tiger-lake reviewed on YooTube. And 100C as usual. Exactly as the previous AW models and the newly released m15 R5 Ryzen Edition.

I guess so. I would be interested in what modules those are, as 3466MHz XMP modules don’t exist in the aftermarket space AFAIK. Also it will be running in Gear 2 at that speed, so memory latency will be awful, which will hurt performance in most games.

    what the hell?????
    90ns latency????????????? ok

I have cancer now. And I was already sick enough BEFORE READING THIS......

    Tiger Lake with Quad Channel?
AIDA has to be reading it wrong.
    Maybe because of LPDDR4X support?

This laptop is already outdated!!!! 3080S is coming as early as Late August early September my homeboy from china told me today. He also said it will have be 165W with 15W boost for total 180W (Speculated). I Also thought this would happen but i thought it would be 185W with 15w dynamic boost for total 200W (Also IBM Legion laptop already spotted with it installed) Alienware X17 R2 will probably be released during this time PLUS 4k 144hz LCD panels will be installed also. I just wonder what Dell gonna do to cool it ohhhhh i know bring back the vaporchamber heatsink with the element 31 pre installed and call it innovation but this time lets keep the 4 fan design!

What’s this about gears? Should i shoot for 3000mhz memory that runs at gear 1 or something?

That would explain why they already have the R1 designation attached to the X17 at release. For the panels, I do hope they add in a good QHD display there somewhere.
