There something strange going about my WX 7100 card, the drivers either wont install properly, I use the Dell Pro drivers from AMD website, sometimes the control panel tells me the GPU is disconnected and states I have to reconnect it.
Tried everything, running in SG mode and laptop boots fine and everything, PEG did not work and it ended up with a blackscreen and beeping, I have A11 unlocked BIOS on my M17x R4 too.

Should I flash the Rx 480 or Rx 580 BIOS on it and see if it helps?

I’d also like to know what the best 3D GPU is for the M17x R3. Is it the 580M?

    Just stumbled across this:

    Using 780M & 880M in an R3?

Can use 680M/780M/880M, but there are things to know:

    1. 680M/780M/880M will all work with 3D display, but actual 3D functionality on internal display will be broken due to Nvidia not validating any of these cards to be used in the M17x R3

    2. 680M is the most compatible card, with the least amount of headaches. Easy plug in play and mod INF, good to go

    3. 780M can make problem, due to conflict with sound card IRQs in the BIOS, some cards you need to disable HD sound in BIOS, install 780M, Mod INF, install driver, then re-enable sound in the BIOS. This is not 100% for every 780M, there are reports of incompatibility doing this trick with some 780M, unclear as to which ones. IMO not worth the hassle since 680M can overclock to 780M performance and never have compatibility problem. 780M also runs hotter.

    3. Avoid 880M, it has all the trouble of 780M + running very very hot, throttling often, cannot be used without VBIOS mod to drop voltage/clocks to 780M levels.

    4. Avoid GTX 675M, simple rebadge of cancer 580M card and will also remain broken with internal 3D.

I have 680M for sale if you like, preflashed with svl7 vbios for max performanvery.

Awesome post. Thanks for taking the time to explain. Don’t want to lose my 3D.

My Alienware battery died years ago. I bought a new one that’s apparently non-genuine. I put it in and powered up. The battery was at 41%.

After 5 minutes I went to do something for just 1 minute. Came back & the laptop was off. Powered up again & got the Windows shutdown unexpectedly message.
Battery now said it was at 39%.

Plugged it in overnight. Will unplug it when I get home. Do new batteries need to be charged before turning on or something? Did I get a dud?

    Thanks for any insight.

    Edit: Accidentally posted early!
