Especially if you haven't put anything on it yet, you wouldn't lose anything by doing a clean install of the operating system - I'd do that, which eliminates any worry or questions you have about the "Faclmg" folder. There's guides on how to do clean Windows installs here on NBR I think (and elsewhere).

This is excellent advice. One never knows what is on a previously owned laptop so I always do a clean install.

I've heard folks have upgraded the R4 to a GTX980m i wonder the GTX980m compares to the AMD Radeon 4GB R9 M290X 8970M? I know the nivida would have better linux drivers but, for regular windows gaming i wonder who they perform.

    Hello guys,
i just got myself an upgraded M17x r4 with 3940XM and 980m, which is a pretty little laptop BUT I have a problem (otherwise I wouldn't be here :D).
My CPU keeps throtttling no matter what settings I use ! It runs at
    - 4 GHz,
    - Current limit is 120A,
    - C-States deactivated
    - temperatures are under 80°C
    - Thermal throttling set to 90°C in the BIOS
... and it throttles back to 2,2 GHz which limits my GPU to 60% usage, and makes me lose up to 18 fps in games ... any ideas ? Thank you in advance !

    PS : I have a 240W PSU

Hey dead, what PSU you running on the M17x? Wonder if a 330w is PnP with the M17x R4.

Hi, specifically when does it throttle? I don't think you need to disable C-States, and if I remember rightly when I disabled C-states on my CPU it wouldn't operate at it's turbo limits, so I would reactivate C-states.

Sorry, I don't have pictures of the heatsink on the GPU at the moment.

I have the stock 240w PSU and the 330w. 330w is plug and play. Bios recognizes the 330w and charges the battery.

Think that 3920XM + 980M OC needs more than 240w?
