I remember seeing old M17 boards with this issue. Basically Dell used 2x higher rated transistors than Clevo, but half as many chips. While this had the same power loss, the AW boards had half of much area to disperse heat to, and thus the chips were prone to blowing up. I see on the area 51m boards that the power switch transistors are right next to each other, dumping their heat to the same spot on the motherboard.

For those who got the vapor chamber heatsink, could you share what are your idle and gaming temps are before and after installation? I'm currently on the fence about getting it. My computer room is several degrees hotter, usually 3 - 5 degrees celsius, than every other room, mainly due to the amount of heat outputted from 51M and poor air circulation. It gets a little uncomfortable at times, and there's not really much I do about the poor air circulation so I was thinking of ways to reduce the heat coming out of the 51M.

Right now I get about 53 degrees celsius on both the CPU and GPU while web browsing, with undervolt and all. Do you think reducing those temps to 35 - 40 degrees celsius is realistic with the vapor chamber? If it's only something like a 5 degrees celsius reduction, then I probably won't bother. It's pretty pricey at almost $300 USD after shipping, and I could alternatively put that towards a new and (hopefully) cooler system.

Does anyone know if there's a possibility of an Alienware 51m r3 any time soon?

ain't gonna happen. They have a lawsuit going already on the R1 and their new thing is "thin". 51m series line ain't that. It would be an amazing machine if they did though! Imagine a 200w variant 3080 or 3080 super when that comes out plus desktop cpu.

That truly is a shame. Greed is what killed this line in the end.

Do you have any recommendations for good Desktop replacement machines like this? Or should i just wait until alder lake CPU's hit the market
