Amplifier is great if your using external monitor. Takes a load off the system, cpu should run cooler and the whole system in general. Plus better performance with external monitor.

This is false. If using external display you will be getting desktop performance: https://www.3dmark.com/fs/13653218

Internal display hit isn't as bad as thunderbolt 3 solutions either.

I had amplifier with a Titan X (Pascal) and with external monitor it was running the same or better than desktops depending on the situation. This was with a 13 R3 with a 7700HQ, a Area-51M will no doubt do even better.

Although I see the amplifier being pointless for now since you can get a RTX 2080 inside the laptop. Best to wait for next gen top dog to use an AMP unless you need a Quadro or Titan for work.

Or you are sick and tired of hauling 5 kg of laptop to work everyday :)
For me I'm leaning towards an Area 51 but the other option would be an M17 with a 2060 Max-Q + and AGA with a 2080. I've got four weeks before I need to decide so I'll have plenty of time to read owner reports regarding the relative temps of both computers.

Or the M15 for maximum portability. In those cases you can get 2080 Max-Q which still performs decently.

In the case of the M15 with a 2060 then yes an AMP would be useful. I used that set-up for about six months with my AW 13 R3 + Titan X (Pascal) in AMP + Apple thunderbolt display.

We don't seem to have any delivery troubles with AW here (Sweden), so I'm gonna order it but I can't decide between i9 9900/32GB/RTX2080 and i7 9700/16GB/RTX2080.

Any suggestions on what config I should go for? It's gonna be a pure gaming machine, no multitasking or streaming whatsoever. Is 9900/32 overkill?

Pure gaming go with 9700K/16GB/2080/144Hz G-Sync panel

You can probably even get away with 8700 option but for a bit more the 9700K is worth it

Pure gaming? 9700. But, if it is purely for gaming, why not buy something that is actually 'mobile' and 'portable' like the MSI GE75 8750H with RTX2080? Lets be honest, 2 power bricks (~2.2kg) + 4.4kg machine lasting maybe 2hrs max on battery, is not exactly 'mobile' or 'portable'.

My main problem is that the local config options for mostly any laptop is very limited in Sweden. The GE75 is only offered with RTX2070 here, and I want the RTX2080.

They don't have GE75 Raider 8SG at all in Sweden? Did you check with some of the retailers to see when they will get the 2080 models as many places don't have this model but will be receiving it by end of February/early March.

True agree 100 percent. Seems like going the extra mile for IT companies is like inventing new technoligies while in fashion the more you pay, the more people slime (cause they know you have the money). I think companies should start small pop-up store's to keep the customer engangement high without risk having to pay rent for years and years. When you're loyal to your fans (not investors and stock holders) they will follow suit, just like the customer outrage let the big boss of disney step in (Battlefront 2 Lootbox debacle) cause EA was ruining their IP. Look at EA now, people are slowly starting to abandon a sinking ship. Dell going public again is not a good sign.
