I got same error when hard drive recovery option was disabled. Previous one was 1.8.1 and before that i think 1.7.0. If you get to load BIOS recovery menu just try rollback option.

Then it maybe just that you have to reset to defaults after rolling back to 1.8.1

Which thread is this? Do you mean returning UV by rolling back BIOS or getting back UV on latest BIOS?

Hey guys, the laptop has burned smells of burn, so we are out for a motherboard. Is there a reasonable outlet in EU we can get one from? 17 R5 with GTX 1080

Dont you want to diagnose it first? Maybe its fixable. New motherboard will be about 1200$ in US so might worth to try to fix the old one.

Well it smells of burn. No obvious component blackened and sizzled, but I did not take it out to look underneath. Most GPU chokes very very hot have completely dried out, cracked and made brittle the PCB lacquer - however they all measure OK. It does not turn on at all. Plugging in to the PSU trips the PSU as soon as the power button is pressed. There must be a short somewhere. I will go take out the whole motherboard to look on the underside.

Im just saying that even if you replace gpu chokes or other elements even gpu itself its going to be way cheaper then to buy new motherboard. My laptop died during the game too (no smell of burn though) and ive sent it to good technician and he replaced couple of components and it cost me about 150$. The thing is that you will need to find really good technician so he would be able to properly troubleshoot all the elements and power circuit.
