After seeing what Dell responds with, I will definitely repaste.

Was testing an Acer XB270HU (1440p/144hz/G Sync) monitor that I just got back from warranty repair today at work ... using my my GTX 1070 Alienware R17 ... the first time I've gamed at 1440p with this laptop... and I was pretty impressed with the 1070's capabilities in regards to 1440p gaming. Very impressed, actually ... my native AW17 screen is the 1080p IPS panel, which is of course great with the GTX 1070 but didn't know it could push 1440p (@ultra settings) so well ... I did a few minutes with Witcher 3, Wolfenstein New Colossus, Metro 2033, etc. and couldn't find any issues ....

Try an hour at Ultra just to be sure. When I got to Novigrad from Velen, I experienced sustained FPS drops for 15-20 secs and then it magically went back to 100+ FPS on my old machine.

I haven't undervolted or overvolted. This machine just works. I'm quite

Yes, -.120mV is as far as I can go. Makes a degree difference if that. It's going back to Dell anyway to fix or replace again if it's not fixable.

Hey guys, hope all has been well. I was tuning and thought I'd share...

The 7820HK still kickin' ... but dang now with these new 6 core 8th gen chips out, it walks circles around the 4 pony chips...

Laptops are becoming beasts with these new chips...

    5.1GHz validated...

Fire Strike 15,096 Physics...not too shabby...

That's a very nice result ! What where your max and average temps ?

I've been tuning mine as well, but cannot seem to push it past 4.6..

The 6 core's are as expected beasts compared to the 4 cores (if 6 core's are being used) but a hassle to cool. Shame on Intel and AW for treating their customers like that.

Yesterday I've bought some warranty in case this laptop would fail. I'm not buying BGA anymore, so I'll keep riding on the warranty exchanges (if it comes to that point) till I will make the switch back to LGA.

Would be very interested in what your magical hands could do with the next AW revision. But right now I'd rather buy a 17 (r) with the mxm slots (LGA) then another BGA disaster.

It gets pretty warm up into the high 80C's and low 90C's ... I'm waiting it out to upgrade until the actual refreshes come out. I don't mind bga, even more so now that the 6 cores are out.

Good call on topping off on the warranty. Depending on the next wave of laptops, if they are not up to par, then I may also be looking into a clevo ... we'll see...

As for the current 1/2 refreshed 17R5, it's not too shabby, but what kills it is the heat sink more than anything. Gosh I hope they fix that and do the heat sink right with the next revisions....

Apply new BIOS and windows update for spectre fix and afterwards disable Spectre Protection using Inspectre and I hope you can score some extra points.
