I am troubled to keep mine or not. The new bezels free are amazing and the autonomy of mine never more 5h.... At least the battery van I get higher?

Me personally, wouldn´t encourage dell to go on as usual in their politics. Especially with the gen 2 m15/m17 versions. Their might look good, but everything inside is a joke.

This laptop is amazing. Was visiting parents and took the graphics amp and my old GTX 1080 with me. Was able to do gaming and 3d rendering extremely well while there. Of course the onboard GTX 1060 is no joke either but the graphics amp takes the laptop to another level. It also keeps it much cooler since the internal heatsink then only has to cool the CPU.

Only problem I have is my MSI GTX 1080 is so tall it doesn't fit into the amp so I'm going to sell it and use put an RTX 2070 Super inside the amp. Found a model that should fit (EVGA 2070 Super) and once I get it I'm going to sell the 1080.

I do also have a desktop setup with an RTX2080 Ti but sometimes when I'm doing a video project it is nice to have two high power GPUs to render some 3d scenes. Can get finished much faster.

    Hi all

I'm looking to improve the cooling of my 2 year old 13 R3, am I right in saying I need to pick up:

    Kyronaut
    Gelid 0.5mm thermal pad
    Gelid 1mm thermal pad

If so, how do I know which thickness pads to use where?

    Thanks

GPU: I have put all 1mm (Gelids) on the GPU side and compressed specific pads (on my laptop the pads over both rows of silver cubes 'chokes') that were too thick there, until I got good die vs. heat-sonk contact. Gelids compress easy from 1mm to even 0.6mm if needed. One package of 1mm is enough for one GPU side re-pad (80x40mm). 0.5 mm pads (DELL) were making absolutely no contact at all on my laptop on chokes, but 0.6 - 0.7 mm fit good.

CPU: I have used 0.5 mm (Gelids), and again, fitted and compressed them while placed on components until good die contact. One 0.5 mm package is enough for 3 CPU re-pads. (80x40mm).

I am pretty sure that even though every heat-sink is different on 13 R3, plus the motherboard components also vary a bit in height on each machine, I think that, you are correct, 1mm is the highest pads that you will ever need.

In case that you will go a bit thick on pads, give it some time, Gelids will adjust/flatten by heat (after a week of gaming or so). The most important thing is that they wil not push heat-sink upwards after flattened to correct thickness, they stay forever the thickness you compress them to or by heat from gaming.

Oh, BTW, I compress the pads while on motherboard (not heat-sink) with a piece of glass and directly check heat-sink contact with pads, keeping an eye on die contact during the process.

Let me know how it went, or if you need any other info. Gelids are an excellent choice for 13 R3 fragile and low pressure heat-sink, I am very happy with them.
