Does anyone know if the top plate of 13 R3 fan is copper? I Googled and gave up. Disassembling the fan and finding out would mean that I have to take heat-sink off, which is maybe unnecessary. Thanx.

Overheating and hard crashes / freezes without extra cooling pad?!

    Please help!

Recently tried "gaming on the go" (still on A/C though) where I don't wanna haul my big ass Coolermaster cooler around with me
Turns out, whereas on the cooling pad it runs fine with the GPU and GPU settling around 80°C with undervolts of -154mV (CPU, Throttlestop) and around -200mV (GPU, MSI Afterburner), on a desk the machine completely freezes after a couple minutes in Final Fantasy 15 or even older titles like Borderlands 2.
    I am quite worried.

Ignore the temp readings, this is after a hard reboot.

    System:

    i7 7700HQ
16GB RAM 2.667 MHz (which btw, according to UserBench is performing poorly)
    GTX1060 6GB
    Toshiba 512GB SSD

    Thank you!

Reduce your undervolts. Those are pretty aggrieved undervolts. Your freezing is a short prom of voltage starvation.

It's been running fine with these settings for two weeks though. Why would it all of a sudden cause problems?

Optimus does not stress no more finally here (trying to guess which GPU to use e.g. clicking on Power mode battery icon in taskbar) with newest Intel driver, minimal Nvidia driver install (3 lines .cfg removed method) and Windows 1803 update (@propeldragon thanx for confirming). I tested this for 2 weeks and it works. The key was the minimal Nvidia install and WIndows 1803.

Reduced undervolt as suggested, now getting crazy temps and large differentials. This is after a quick UserBench:

Your masking poor thernal paste/pad issues with undervolting. Didn’t freeze though just running hotter? Your answer is better pads and paste and a more reasonable undervolt

Then why did this literally start today / when I put the laptop on my desk instead of on the cooler? It worked fine and dandy with my aggressive undervolts for weeks!
Could the paste have deteriorated that fast?
And why did i get freezes all of a sudden?
