A load of Ampere cards grabbing coins in a room create some heat. And not all places you have nice and cool ambient temp 24/7 at 22C:) Want a new Ampere card... Buy it new when its aviable from the stores. + you get the full new warranty. Cooked +$1000 cards with shorted warranty isn't so tempting.

Be you sure... Nvidia don't do this to be kind and help the gamers. It's all about maxing out the profits.

Nvidia cripples RTX 3060 mining ahead of launch, but don't expect miracles pcworld.com | today

Nvidia is cutting the GeForce RTX 3060's Ethereum capabilities in half and rolling out dedicated cryptocurrency GPUs, but still expect the graphics cards to disappear quickly

NVIDIA announces Crypto Mining Processor series, GeForce RTX 3060 driver will limit mining performance videocardz.de | today

RTX 3060 driver will limit mining performance

NVIDIA also announced that the upcoming GeForce RTX 3060 will have a special driver treatment that will automatically detect mining-specific algorithms, which will limit the hash rate by 50%. This would ensure that the RTX 3060 would be useful to gamers, not miners.

NVIDIA has never attempted to discourage miners from buying GeForce graphics cards in such a way. It is unclear how the software will work and if this only applies to Windows drivers.

Nvidia Limits RTX 3060 Hash Rate, Unveils New 'Cryptocurrency Mining Processor' Line of GPUs tomshardware.com | today

Gamers to the right, miners to the left.

Yeah, finally can Nvidia help the miners and their AIB partners with more "Ampere" cards:D

"Of course, EVGA isn't being loud about the launch -- there was no announcement or press release. Rather, the unit just appeared on NewEgg, seemingly out of nowhere, but I guess this is logical: companies that come out with mining hardware aren't exactly popular right now. The PSU also isn't listed on EVGA's website either"

Maybe EVGA now can promote their Mining PSU's on their website:p

On the one hand, something needed to be done, but this is actually fairly evil. Don't like the idea of Nvidia driver arbitrarily deciding what software can be used on the product.

I guess that kind of makes sense, except the specs are fairly gimped.

    50HX, Ethereum Hash Rate 45Mh/s, power 250W

Guess they are trying to push Pascal to miners or something? :D

NVIDIA Says Its Hard To Crack GeForce GPU Mining Hash Rate Limiter, Current Ampere & Turing GPUs Remain Unaffected But Future Gaming Graphics Cards Likely To Get Similar Treatment wccftech.com

NVIDIA made some pretty huge announcements to counter the cryptocurrency mining boom and the subsequent supply outages that are affecting its GeForce line of graphics cards. The company not only announced a dedicated line of GPUs under the CMP (Crypto Mining Processor) banner but also revealed that for upcoming GeForce graphics cards, they will be nerfing its hash rate by a huge margin to stop miners from gouging up the stock. The company has now given more info on how all of this is going to work.

It is alarming how easily Nvidia convinces gamers they are the good guys while swindling them from behind the scenes. Here’s how they are doing it again in 2021.

Nvidia: RTX 3060 vBIOS Prevents Removal of Hash Rate Limiter tomshardware.com
If A Workaround Comes, It Will Be Too Late
Well, theoretically, that should be possible, but in practice, it might be more difficult than you'd think. Since Nvidia's Turing GPUs, the vBIOS comes encrypted, and as such it's not possible to read it out, modify it, and reload it onto the GPU -- the only way people have been able to modify the vBIOS on Nvidia's recent GPUs is by finding a different BIOS and loading it -- but they haven't strictly modified the existing vBIOS.

Despite Nvidia's Anti-Mining Lock, RTX 3060 Can Still Earn Up To $7 a Day Mining tomshardware.com

Of course, these coins aren't as popular as Ethereum due to overall lower profitability, so it makes sense that Nvidia targeted Ethereum coin mining with the hashing limiter. But it makes you wonder: Was it all just a complicated PR stunt to regain some popularity with gamers?

Good, an ultimately stupid underhand move and more opportunity for AMD to catch up. Stupid for many reasons but also because it assumes gamers don't want to mine. Crippling products is not the answer.

Newegg and BestBuy GeForce RTX 3060 pricing ranges from 330 USD to 630 USD videocardz.de 25th Feb 2021, 07:52 GMT

It is not just distributors and retailers who are to blame. AIBs that we spoke with are saying that keeping NVIDIA MSRP is impossible to fulfill at this moment. Some cards are sold to distributors at 400 USD, and that’s before any tariffs, taxes, and margins are even applied. That’s the official MSRP from one board partner for a seemingly cheap-looking model (unfortunately we cannot say which brand).

Later today NVIDIA will lift the embargo on RTX 3060 reviews and soon after that, the cards will go on sale.
    Let the scalping games begin:vbbiggrin:

Somehow I don't believe them. Between the fact xx60 class cards were selling for $250 only 4 years ago, Nvidia artificially jacking up the prices of the Turing lineup, and inflation not running rampant over the past few years, I call BS.

This is just an excuse for AIBs to overcharge for GPUs unless I'm missing something.
