Well i purchased a 360 over Christmas and so far Im pretty happy. However at the time I thought it was excellent value for money but thinking about it, it aint any cheaper than the ps3. £280 for the console which is good but then i need the wireless bridge thats £50 more, then xbox live gold membership which is £40 a year and then if I want the hd dvd drive thats another £120. All equals £490. And then £40 a year for live!

The ps3 is £425 for the top package and I top have to keep paying for online gaming. Oh and you get hdmi, 40gb more hd space and a memory card reader all in one tidy package rather that having them all separate!

And as for the ps3 isnt as powerful debate take a look at some screen caps of gt hd. The proof is in the pudding and quite frankly the graphics blow the 360 away!

As for the wii, well if i want to play sports I would much rather go out and do it for real. Though it is fun I can see the novelty, of the controllers, running out pretty rapidly.

Its going to be interesting to see how successful the ps3 launch is going to be in europe.

    Why is there no poll?

I haven't played any of the 3 except in demos at the stores. I honestly think sony is going to pull through in the long run. Anybody who tells me the xbox beat out the ps2 is simply lying to themselves. Great job to Nintendo for bringing out the Wii, but it's nowhere near the same class as the other two and will again follow tradition to become a childrens console.

If or when the price drops on the PS3 (which I think will be around next holiday season), sales with increase dramatically. PS3 just has more bang for the buck than the Wii or 360. Personally, I'll probally just get a Heavily Modded 360 later this year.

I would buy a ps3 if it cost half the amount it does, and if I could get over the fact that Satan Inc. is the company from whence it spawned. I was at a friend's house playing it... had a pretty good time. (Blast Factor is an exceedingly fun single player game ... the other games were fun too.)

The 360 would probably be my console of choice if I were a gamer. I'm not really. I'm thinking about buying it for Dead Rising anyways. "This mower doesn't do anything to grass, but it sure mows down them zombies! 8D"

The Wii looks fun, and I want to play with it. My brother would probably throw the remote through my skull at some point though... dangerous...

I have a Wii, but sadly, I'm also a fan of the 360. Not a fan of Microsoft, so that kills me. But I just have no reason to buy the PS3 right now. I may buy a 360, but after version 2 comes out. Hopefully the rumors of a 120GB hard drive/HDMI are true. That would make me happy. But at least a price drop.

Unfortunately, the Wii is getting branded as a kid console, and that sucks. It's capable of so much more, most notably first person shooters. But I'm banking on Nintendo's strategy, sales, and low development costs to bring more 3rd party developers. There's even talk of GTA on the Wii, which would be great.

I think the Wii and the 360 are were it is at. The 360 and the Ps3 are more direct competitors (trying to offer similar gaming feel). However, the PS3 hasn't had any really good games out. The only reason to buy one ATM is for the Blu-ray. And since it's looking more and more like BR will not be the dominant winner (porn companies are now siding with HD-DVD, which is waht caused the similar downfall to Sony's BetaMax) I don't feel that BR is a big advantage.
I'm also tired of Square soft stuff. thats been my big thing, I haven't played any square game on the ps2 that were worth the investment. Sorry, but theres only so much fruity girl-boys one can take.

The 360 will offer a nice set of hard core games. The Wii will offer more fun, inventive games. They will have their set of more mature games as well (res evil 5, metroid prime 3).

I don't want to come off as a sony hater. The company is just as bad as MS or any other big company (people need to stop idiolizing sony) but I don't feel their near monopoly of last gen (and prev gen) is necesarily the best thing for the gaming world. I would hate to see the day where Nintendo and MS go the way of Sega and Atari.
But it's fairly obvious to me, that the PS3 is majorly tanking. Retailers around my area cannot get rid of them. People are returning them for their ps2's. They cannot keep any Wii's or Wii accesories in stock. Considering that Wii's were shipped in MUCH larger quantities, it's pretty surprising. And I think it really shows that the Wii will be a very strong system this generation.

But really, they should have kept the Revolution title... Wii just sounds... gay.

Whoa, where did you hear that? If you take the US price and convert straight to £, perhaps, but they've never ever done that, and they aren't going to do it with the PS3.
The last semi-official UK price I heard was around the £650-700 mark
Also it may not be fair to include the price of the HD DVD drive. I mean, do you need it? It won't matter for games. Are you going to need it for movies then?
If you really want to use the console as a multi-purpose entertainment thingy, then yes, the HDDVD should be included in the price. If we're talking about their price as gaming consoles, it shouldn't be included, because you don't have to buy it, and there's no *reason* to buy it.

    Screen shots? Come *on*
Take a look at some CGI shots from outside games. Everything can look fantastic in screenshots. Because you don't have the framerate to worry about.

So far, every PS3 -> 360 port has been without *any* sacrifice in graphics. Every cross-platform title runs *at least* as well on the 360. (In some cases, it runs quite a bit *better* on the 360)
I'm sorry, I'm not buying it. By that logic, Warcraft 3 has better graphics than *any* console game. I just have to take a screenshot during the cutscenes.
Oblivion *certainly* has better graphics. I just have to max everything. Sure, it'll run like crap, but the screenshots will be pretty.

    Your links are broken. :)

    Have you tried a wii?
I found it to be much more fun than I'd expected. And of course, the sports game is *one* launch game. Not exactly representative of everything that's coming out for the console.

True, but I can't imagine it doing much better than in the US. Especially with the insane price. Hardware is always a lot more expensive in Europe to begin with (apparently the hardware/gaming industries use an exchange rate as follows: $1 = £1, $1 = 10DKK/NOK/SEK, and $1 = €2.
For anyone who's not up to speed in currency exchange rates, that means something like double price in Europe. So with the PS3's price tag, which is ridiculous to begin with, it might just be too much.

Hmm, why do you think that? Usually, the launch is pretty vital to a console's success. If it performs badly now, there won't be many developers interested in making games for it, so *when* the price cut comes, there still won't be many games to make it worth buying. And it won't even have the advantage it has right now, that it's brand new, and its main competitor is a year old.
I'm also curious what you mean by "more bang for the buck". Are we talking about the quality of the games available? Or the raw performance of the console? Or... something else? (I don't see either as true, but that's just me)

I'm not a fan of Sony but I wouldn't bash them unnecessarily either, I just think they deserve it here.

But the funniest thing is that although on paper the Ps3 is 'superior' to the 360, the fact that reality has shown the machines to be generally identical performers has not deterred many fanboys from, in response to the price differnce, categorically stating 'But its far more powerful, hence its worth it!'

The price is way too high. And another 'trick' of the Ps3 side is to state that once you add in the HD drive, the 360 jumps in price. Well, they neglect to remind us that the HD drive isn't necessary for games n any capacity whatsoever. I'd certainly have no interest in it at the moment anyway. Not to mention the 'Blu-Ray holds much more'. Much more what? Empty space? Because that's all it does hold frankly. Games are not going to be 'bigger, better and longer' on the Ps3 as naive fanboys claim.

At the moment, multi-plat games running on both the Ps3 and 360 have been shown to be running at a higher fps and better looking on the 360. I prefer the 360, but that's not to say I like the look of some of the stuff on the PS3 either. It's just much too expensive for what it is - A similar machine to the 360 that tries to justify its expense with extras and add-ons that in all fairness, don't matter a crap to the average gamer as much as the hefty price tag does.

I think if Microsoft launched Halo 3 right about now, or in a month or two, they'd make a rather large dent in PS3 sales at least in the US and Europe. :)

The official price in the UK is £425. Even if i had just converted straight from dollars to pounds the price would have been £300. Which would have made the 360 look like the rip off.
Even if i dont include the price of an hd drive it still only takes just over two years in xbox live membership before the360 costs the same s the ps3.

And if screen shots arnt good enough:

I bought a Wii on release day, had a lot of fun with it, had my place broken into, had the Wii stolen, and have since decided not to re-buy it unless something really inventive is developed for it. The gameplay on the Wii is, as people have said, really new and fun.. but it will take a while for developers to make games that really take advantage of the controls in a more than 'shake your wrist' kind of way. The moment I realized that Wii sports didn't rely on arm motion and only depended on internal gyroscope movement (just detecting tilt and rotation), I was very disenchanted. ;)

I bought a 360 last week after I found out that Bioshock was going to be released for it, and have had lots of fun playing it since then. I avoided the original xbox (owned a gamecube and PS2) b/c of the game selection.. but am re-getting into FPS's and the like, which is definitely the 360's territory.

I have no interest in the PS3 yet ----- but that will probably change as soon as the next FF is released for it. :)
