Very helpful information, Penguinslider! And now you have given me even more options to look into. I had also not considered using the laptop as an impact weapon. Good to know! ;) Those kids can be a mess.

Let me take a look at these and hopefully make up my mind in short order. I appreciate all the assistance that I am receiving here.

    Take care!

    No problem :)

The only thing I would like to add is that you should stick to business class laptops. Aside from better build quality in general, they have better warranty support as well. Get a three year or more warranty if your budget will allow it.

Teendoctor - I can vouch for Mr Slider's friendly and most useful advice - I had the exact same dilemma a few months back now - I couldn't decide which 17" laptop to buy for my photography hobby - I eventually decided on a Dell Precision 7710 which I was lucky enough to buy new for £1700 [ a long story ] - it came with i7-6820HQ - 16GB Ram - 1TB - 256GB SSD and Nividia 4000M - Dell would have charged me around £2800 for those specs so it was too much of a bargain to turn down - Dell 3 year warranty too . The other laptops I was considering at the time were the Lenovo P70 , PC Specialists Octane 2 [ a Clevo P771 ] and their Defiance 2 [ another Clevo body ] . I'll be the first to admit that my choice of laptop was overkill for my needs but I had inherited some money so I bought the very best I could afford at the time - the other laptop which is highly recommended for photographers is the Dell XPS 9550 or the newer model - I'd also recommend Lenovo Thinkpad range and Penguin's choice of Dell Precision 7510 .
