Just picked up the m18x in my signature for only 1850 at microcenter cause someone opened it in the store, perfect condition couldnt pass it up! anyways, i was looking to upgrade the RAM to ddr3 1866,
    Newegg.com - Kingston HyperX 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1866 HyperX Plug n Play Laptop Memory Model KHX1866C11S3P1K2/8G

will i be able to run the RAM at those speeds even though i have a 2360QM?

Second, am I able to upgrade the GPU in this system to maybe dual 6990's or gtx 580m's in the future? was thinking i might need different cables going for sli/crossfire and different heatsinks.

Third, if i upgrade the cpu, to the extreme edition for overclocking, which one is the logical buy? I see many versions and engineering samples and some for as low as 300 on ebay. thanks everyone!

Not sure if the 2360QM can take 1866MHz RAM, think I remember seeing that that one couldn't take the faster RAM, I'm sure someone else will post as to whether it can or not. The 29020XM definitely can, so if you're buying one of them it won;t be an issue.

As for the GPUs, you can take out the 460M's and put in SLI 580M (you should already have the SLI cable with your 460M's but you'll probably get one with an SLI 580M upgrade kit. If you go 6990M CF you'll gat the crossfire cable in that kit too I would expect, unless you buy the cards separately on eBay. They will be pretty hard to find I'd expect; you can buy them from a Clevo reseller in the US but I think they may have to be flashed with the Dell BIOS for them to work in SLI/CF in the M18X. The CPU is really up to you ES (Engineering Sample) or QS (Quality Sample). There are rumours that some ES products aren't as polished as the QS or the OEM but I see a few people on the forums here that have them. Just make sure that the person you buy from has a very high feedback score and a large number of sales (even if slightly more expensive) as you're less likely to get burnt.

Newegg's return policy is pretty forgiving...if it doesn't run at 1866, you can return it for that reason, without restock fees.

The 1866Mhz RAM will work. The thing is your CPU will communicate with 1866Mhz RAM only at 1333 Mhz. This is CPU's bus speed and you can do nothing about it.

The communication between RAM dies will be at 1866 Mhz tough, so nevertheless there should be some performance gain (a tiny one, as some claim).

Personally, if I were you I would choose RAM speed matching my CPUs capability. For 2630QM this is 1333Mhz. You can get HyperX 1333Mhz as well which offers lower CLs.

    They go from ~ $300-$700 up to $1200 on eBay, that's ES-QS-OEM

I was going to post this but was surprised someone knew how it worked (seems to be rare). Then I saw the username and I was like ahhhh, that's why :)

And to add to the discussion, I believe the extreme CPU's are only 1600mhz FSB so even 1866mhz is a bit over the mark for the faster option. However if you plan on overclocking they'll fit right in :)
