    A good point: My E5570 had the i5-6440HQ CPU. This CPU has more contacts (FCBGA1440) than the U series CPUs (FCBGA1356) and, while having more PCIe lanes is shown in the specs, there might also be better SATA connectivity.

    Not to mention, the H series has a separate, off-package southbridge (PCH) that hosts the SATA connections. The U series has its southbridge on-package.

    See this post for the E7450 which reports a 2242 PCIe M.2 SSD working in the WWAN slot. Would this work in the E5470 / E5570?

    Sorry for the late reply. I hadn't checked back to this thread until today. You could be on to something. Mine is an i5 U processor. Let me know if you ever try that again with the most recent firmware. If you find it doesn't work also, I may try reverting.
