    Hi All

I have a few posts on here as i have just received an new (for me) i5 8250U/ 1000Gb HDD.

I have NEVER used Win10, it took me until the end to upgrade to Win7 but i know that inside/out now.

There seems to a lot of rubbish on there, McAfee, Mobile Plans, Cortana etc But i have the plain old Email in the bottom taskbar.

Email for me for several years has all been done through Thunderbird, i run 4 emails seamless plus it has a great calendar/alets etc.

How do i ditch this ?

Also i'm concerned the fan is running at full speed when just sitting there on standby!!!

Just opened Task Manager and there are no running apps showing?
**EDIT** I had to select 'more' lol, just for it to actually show me what's running....It's using 23% CPU with NOTHING installed, it's padded out with crap imo/

What am i missing her guys.??

    Thanks

Its probably trying to install Windows updates but since your new laptop is used i suggest you reinstall Windows before using it for safety reasons. You can use the recovery partition that HP, DELL, ASUS and etc installed in their systems that'll reset your laptop to factory settings it'll also reinstall the bloatware that came with the laptop or you can use the "Reset this pc" option that is Built in Windows 10.

It's so slow it's unreal, first thing i done was check fpr updates, only 4 ot 5 there tbh, did not ask if i wanted to restert now to apply them, is that a win10 thing??
Anyway affter seeing HP this, Mcafee blah blah i turned it off, it applies a few updtes.

But as you say it needs a ytally fresh install as it toll 10 mins to log in after only one set of non essential upgrades, they ere Mcafee .

I'll create a USB i the morn, will it ask fpr the serial no? Or auto detect it??
I'm gutted tbh, i expected it to be fast, simple, it just seems bloated for 'Joe Bloggs' so they can sign up to all of the rubbish...JMO.

    Thank you

You dont need the serial for a clean install of Windows as its built into the motherboard. Also i suggest you to replace the HDD with an SSD since they're cheap these days to really improve performance, You can get a 1TB SSD for under $100.

That sucks. Does your laptop has a M.2 slot? If so then you buy a smaller sized SSD to install Windows on and use the HDD as a storage drive.

I can't fill 256Gb these days, it's only movies/series which take the [ace.
BUT i have a bew screen now which can run better specs.....But i will always download 'middle of the road' 0.7- 1Gb film, series with all episodes is 10Gb max...lol

You guys are great, so much knowledge and good advice.

    Cheers

Well my old acer just died om me!!!! No screen, played/disconnected all wires to it.
Plugged my spare monitor in and boots up ok until you enter password, the its just a jumbled screen of colours!!!

It will run im safe mode so i'm currently copying all my files from it.

I'm on the new one now and its ok, i missed that it was updating a lot of things when i first plugged it in...lol

Only 50 mins ro go to copy stuff from my desktop, then i got my music/documents.

Once i have everything safe on a usb i will put a fresh Win10 on this, i've made a bootable drive and F9 is to enter boot selection.

    Wish me luck!!! lol

    Thanks fuys
