Okay so I am going to be buying a 500GB momentus XT to replace my current 500GB HDD in my Acer 3820TG. However my currency HDD is partitioned into 3 parts (recovery 10GB, windows 90GB, other junk 362GB). I want to clone EVERYTHING onto the new HDD and basically just switch them out. Is it possible to just clone HDD?

I have these wires that connect into SATA ports and then to USB so i was wondering if i can use those?

Would it work if I just backup my entire system on an external HDD and then use system restore?

I want to keep all the partitions and all the files.

    thanks.

You need to connect the XT to an external enclosure via USB or eSATA.

Then use a program like Acronis to clone your original HD onto the XT.

Instead of an enclosure, you can also use a converter that powers the XT and connects via USB like the Bytecc USB 2.0 Drive Mate.

This will copy all partitions and data/programs over to the new HD and when it is finished, you simply switch your current HD with the XT and boot up.

    Good luck.

    Thanks.

And is Acronis the best program for this?

It is the best that I've used.
