Not having G-Sync is a instant no buy in this day and age.
    What was MSI thinking!

Probably to have Nvidia Optimus for power efficiency. Should be a switch and reboot to get G-sync like Clevo/Sager or whatever does.

+1, what a shame MSI, at this price, and actually, having a gaming laptop without a G-Sync display it's a pitiful.

Power efficiency on a gaming laptop, seriously? And what is the power consumption difference between a G-Sync display and a classic display on a laptop? IMHO, That must be really marginal.

I hope the next refresh of the MSI GS73VR will have a G-Sync display this time, with the GTX 1080 Max Q, and the 120Hz 3ms HDR display as promised.

Any news about this next refresh of the MSI GS73VR? Because in France, the Asus Zephyrus GX501 VI is too expensive, as usual, in France, all is always much expensive than elsewhere ; in the USA, the Asus Zephyrus GX501 VI cost 2600-2700$ and with Windows 10 Pro 64 bit, in France, it's cost 3200€ for the same configuration (i7 7700HQ, 16GB of RAM, 512GB M.2 NVMe SSD ...), but with Windows 10 Familial, only for that, I hate to
live in France, we pays too expensive for many things.

Power efficiency is important for all computers (and vehicles). It would suck to have an idling 1060+ when you are watching Youtube, programming, day trading stocks, anything that doesn't need the GPU. Otherwise battery life would be dented. If it could support both Optimus and G-Sync, it would be ideal. Although the mandatory reboot is annoying.
1080 Max-Q in this chassis is unlikely. Just not enough space for cooling.

I guess buy used if customs doesn't hurt.

The box inventory label doesn't say Max-Q for the GPU, and the product page only has footnotes about Max-Q in the Overview, the Specification tab on the product page just says 1070, no mention of Max-Q.
    https://us.msi.com/Laptop/GS63VR-Stealth-Pro-7th-Gen-GEFORCE-GTX-1070.html#hero-specification

Does the Driver or System control panel show Max-Q for the 1070?

Also, no mention of G-sync, but that doesn't mean it doesn't, does it have G-sync?

I prefer IPS panel's too, especially outside, and after viewing only IPS for years, I can easily spot the TN washed out look. But, I guess the 120 FPS feature is nice; I'd probably just get a nice external high FPS "IPS" monitor and keep a 60hz IPS as the internal display.

Looking forward to your review :)

Agree with the screen.. I prefer the old one with IPS.
The nvidia control panel shows gtx1070 with max Q design..
There is no Gsync since has Optimus..

MSI was IPS before the GS63/73VR 1080p refresh, the refresh is TN?

The 120hz 3ms panel is TN... The Msi site is listing other options ask Full HD and 4K IPS level...
