    I usually select Deny only for SYSTEM and that takes care of the pop-up under any user.

    XP PRO

    1. Start-> Control Panel
    2. Administrative tools-> Local security policy
    3. Click on Software Restriction Policy-> Action (at the top)-> create new restriction policies
    4. Right-click additional rules (on the right side)-> new path rule
    5. Click Browse and navigate to C:\Program Files\(Avira)\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\ and double-click avnotify.exe
    6. Set the security level to Disallowed-> apply-> ok

    That's the same procedure as for version 8

    Any side effects? I thought I'd read that this caused Avira 9 to reboot the computer after updates.

    thanks

    I've had Avira 9 on a Vista machine for a while and the method that worked for me, and others here have suggested is this:

    (must be using an Administrator account)

    Go to C:\Program Files\Avira\......\avnotify.exe

    Right-click avnotify.exe-> properties-> security-> advanced

    Under the Permissions tab click on SYSTEM under Permission entries:

    Edit-> Traverse Folder / Execute File-> deny-> ok ->apply-> yes -> ok-> ok

    This is from here, the same as the method for Windows 2000/XP but no need to go to safe mode. Don't forget to add the "/nosplash" entry to the registry (bottom of that page).

    Works like a charm. :)

    Avira PE 9 no longer updates manual or automatic. :(

    Any solutions other than uninstall/reinstall ?
