Laptops arent really great for overclocking tasks to begin with. Obnoxiously loud, hot and in a laptop a serious lifespan degrader.

Maybe thats a problem on BGA, but on rPGA and LGA I just get another what ever component dies if your beliefs are held to be true.

The prices of an mxm gpu board are the same as a full alienware bga motherboard. So i rather dont see either die. And its mostly components such as vrms dying not a cpu itself.

Bought my mobo for 110 USD and a more powerful GPU for 250 USD.

Not to mention my backup CPU was 40 USD and my backup GPU was 35 USD.

Oh my god, i just saw the CES and read about this laptop. This is exactly what we enthusiasts have been asking for all this time, especially from alienware!
The design of this laptop also seems to be reminiscent of the old pre-dell alienwares as well.

This is definitely going to be a buy for me and i hope alienware continues to make products for us enthusiasts. Took us a while to get something like this, but it seems like the wait was worth it

Not really. The only people that actually believe that about the P870 have never owned one, and those so obsessed with keyboards that they can't see past that. Nobody with any sense buys a DTR for battery life. P870 has some of the best speakers ever made available in a laptop. Oh wait. They killed it. What you said is true about the P7. Hopefully, Clevo is going to surprise us with something better than the P870 around February or March.

While it is refreshing to see some hardware improvement from the clowns at Alienware, we shall see how long the joy lasts once the 125% TDP limit sinks in. Alienware BIOS modding is not possible thanks to BootGuard filth (unless you want to try your hand at replacing the PCH chip). So, it's going to be perma-broken for meaningful overclocking and its appeal will still only be attractive to the gamer kids once the chickens come home to roost. Good hardware with the gonads removed.

The real value here is what kind of response it could prompt from Clevo and MSI. Alienware is still down for the count in the enthusiast space. I am also predicting that the 150W 2080 will struggle to match the Clevo 1080 due to the power limits.

I'm very surprised this actually exists, I may pick one up. They actually used an Alienware model name from back in their Clevo days where they used desktop pentium 4 chips and mxm gpus, so thats actually kinda cool they did that.
