@Saltsi 's explanation worked perfectly! I came back to my computer, and it had a dark screen after rebooting itself. I hooked it up to an external monitor using duplicate, did the EDID override, disabled the internal monitor, reinstalled (cleanly) the nvidia drivers and rebooted. Lo and behold the screen came on and has stayed on even after rebooting multiple times and removing the external monitor. Running at full 1440p and 120hz, no issues.

do you think you can do an update on p775dm3g to support the b173qtn01.4? I'm sure the owners would pay to finally find a bios solution including me

guys any panel suggestions for alienware 15 R2 ?? i mostly work on adobe photoshop / illustrator, i need a IPS and good color gamut screen, i dont mind about 120hz or refresh rate.. i saw few with 94% color space from CHIMEI but its a TN panel. . contacted a ebay seller, he suggested me BT156HTN5.1 a 120hz panel / 72% TN..

Why would the 1.4 version not have gsync on the P775TM1-G while it does for alienwares? Is it because it's not flagged and a supported? Isn't it technically the same?

The panel needs to be on a GSync whitelist in BIOS for it to be recognized as GSync capable. More retarded NV nonsense.
