Need a cheap Laptop for Graphic Design, Photoshop etc.

    Well, it all goes to this. I need a new laptop cuz i'm surviving with my lenovo 3000 serie N; and I need a faster laptop. I'm in the advertising area and I use a lot of photoshop, adobre premiere and everything for graphic design. Well, read my faq please, and help me.

    General Questions

    1) What is your budget?

    No more than 1300$ (maaaaaax> 1400) please!

    2) What size notebook would you prefer?

    a. Ultraportable; 12" screen or less
    b. Thin and Light; 13" - 14" screen
    c. Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen
    d. Desktop Replacement; 17"+ screen

    3) Please select your country's flag as a post icon and tell us what country are you buying this in.

    (there's no Bolivian Flag in there...but im buying it in USA)

    4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?

    I love Lenovo. (used to have a T40). I think that for design Apple is good. I don't like Toshiba or Asus, neither Acer. HP is indiferent for me (except for the MTV award winner desing for laptop! is so cool!)

    5) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?

    Graphic design, video edit, advertising in all its form. Also, I like to see movies in the laptop but this is no a high need. Also, i played some games, but nothing too heavy. smething like comand and conquer generals. I love to hear music and I'm allways connected to the wi fi of my university and my work.

    6) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?

    I'm allways moving. I need something light beacuse the lenovo that i have right now is killing my back.

    7) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games?

    Command And conquer Generals Zero Hour or something like that. Not much a gamer.

    8) How many hours of battery life do you need?

    At least 1 1/2 hours. I need battery for the university.

    9) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?

    nah. i need a laptop, and don't care if it is from kirjikistan. Obviously i will like a new laptop, but im open to everything.

    10) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista), Mac OS, Linux, etc.

    Vista or Mac (i hate Vista..but...)

    Screen Specifics

    11) Would you prefer standard or widescreen?

    Em..wich is better for design?

    12) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer?


    a. XGA -1024x768 - Large and easy to read text + graphics icons, but you fit less stuff on the screen.
    b. SXGA - 1400x1050 - Compromise resolution between XGA and UXGA.
    c. UXGA - 1600x1200 - Very small text and graphics icons, you can fit lots of stuff on the screen.

    d. WXGA or WXGA+ - 1280x768/800 or 1440x900; Wider viewing version of XGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.
    e. WSXGA+ - 1680x1050; Wider viewing version of SXGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.
    f. WUXGA - 1920x1200; Wider viewing version of UXGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.

    13) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?

    14) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?

    yep. I need style.

    15) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last?

    Im buying it in (two opcions)
    1)the next month(april)
    2) in August.

    I need it to last at least one year and a half.

    Notebook Components

    16) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 500GB?

    160 gb would be fine.

    17) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a CDRW/DVD-ROM, DVD Burner or Blu-Ray drive?

    I need to write a DVD. no blu ray.

    AND, I have a question>

    After readng in the forum aborut the graphic cards I realized that i know less than before. I need a good graphic card?

    I know i'm wanting too much for only 1300$..but is my first laptop buyed by me with the money of my work! (note> in Bolivia, 300$ is a great salary for halftime job. Average salary for 8 hrs work is> 250$. I earn 300$ per motnh)

    wow...this is for real??? I didn't knew that Asus got this. But, why is so cheap for everything that it has?? And being a little negative> what are the Cons of the Asus laptops??

    Some questions more>

    1) Is there any lenovo or HP with 256 or 512 mb of GPU??
    2) What I need most to do graphic design and video edtng and advertising in general?> great screen? great GPU? a discrete GPU? a integrated GPU? great RAM? all of this? nothing of this?
    3) Can you please tell me the laptops that fits in my desires?
    4) why are you so good people and help me and everybody in the laptop questions?
