    Thunderbird has an option for not downloading attachments:

    For POP accounts:
    1. Go to the Disk Space category for the desired account.
    2. Make sure Messages larger than ____ KB is checked under To save disk space, do not download:.

    Enter the maximum size for messages you want Mozilla Thunderbird to download automatically.
    • The default 50 KB will let it download most messages that have no or just very small attachments but avoid almost all other emails with files attached.

    Regedit.exe fail.Could this have happened after stopping some services or dependencies? I'm getting "The application was unable to start correctly. (0xc0000142)". I noticed it after Disable Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool.

    Wasn't trying to blame the Malicious Software Removal Tool--just didn't know if I did something wrong. I can still run regedit from the command prompt. Speaking of the tool, am I supposed to enter the "Don'tOfferThroughWUAU"=dword:00000001 into the registry?

    Just copy/paste the below code (without the word CODE in the beginning) in a Notepad TXT file then save as Disable Microsoft Malicious Removal Tool.reg

    Make sure you save it as a *.reg extension and not *.txt then simply double click on the file you just created to merge it with the registry

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\MRT]
    "DontOfferThroughWUAU"=dword:00000001
