Check out my new mod. All it took was 1 shelf and a piece of weak drywall.

    1. Mount a shelf in some drywall that looks sturdy (but the trick here is to make sure it actually is very weak)

    2. Use your laptop until the shelf falls onto it (stack heavy things on the shelf to speed up the process)

    3. Be sure to make sure that your screen is opened all the way for best results.

    Damn, thats some serious damage.

Are you sending it in for warranty or replacing the LCD yourself?

Got a source for screens? or do you need a couple links?

Added to the resources page since you posted it as a mod ;)

Dude, I am glad you have a good attitude about it, but that must blow!

Did you have any warranties to cover it?

Well, luckily I have the "Dell Accidental Damage Warranty". They were suprisingly cool about it, they are sending a guy out within the next week to my house to replace it for free. I really like this about dell. I really like the fact i decided to get that warranty. Haven't even had the laptop for a month :p

 Wish I was there just to see your face when it happened...priceless! It wouldn't be so funny if you didn't have the accidental damage warranty!

Buy a studfinder. There's a reason they exist.

I never drill into a wall with the intention of hanging anything without tapping into a stud.

it toook me a while to figure out what kind of mod u're talking about .. staring at the pic for 5 min and reading the comments.. i finally know why.

i did the samething to my lap while turn it over and assemble it at the bottom then when i turn the face back on, screen cracked.

Yeah why did you mount anything to the drywall, especially something like a SHELF?

It doesn't need to be "weak" drywall for that to happen, all drywall is weak. You don't mount shelves in drywall, you find a stud and screw into the stud. I hope you learned your lesson lol... Next time something like this happens maybe you'll blame yourself instead of blaming it on "weak drywall".
