I purchased this a week ago from Best Buy for $799. I knew from reading reviews that the display was junk and would need to be swapped out. I couldn't tolerate the terrible viewing angles and washed out colors.

    - i5-7300HQ
    - 8GB RAM
    - 1TB 5400 RPM HDD (junk)
    - NVIDIA 1050

    Upgrades
    - 256GB M.2 SSD ( $40 - originally from a Lenovo Yoga 910 )
    - 8GB 2400 Ballistics Sport ($65.71)
    - AU Optronics B156HAN01.2 IPS Display ($67.99)

In the end, I have myself a very capable machine for a total of $1041.69. I highly recommend this machine. Heck if you're able to overlook the screen. Just a HDD and RAM upgrade would keep this well under $1k.

did you have to do anything special to get the new screen to fit?

How did you know that this screen would be an easy drop in replacement?

I did somewhat of the same thing. I bought the lowest model inspiron 13 5000 2 in 1 before Christmas. I just installed my 16gb ballistix ram, and was all ready to install the 2 tb firecuda, but they shipped me the barracuda instead. So, I returned it, and am going to order the firecuda as soon as my refund is processed. Should be pretty quick after that is installed!
